That’s good to hear they are getting a mid-high rise out there… it would be quite a convenient place to live.

It may very well have a view of the ocean from 14 storeys up at that location, although, probably nothing considered panoramic.

I think it’s quite puzzling why so much of the mid rise and high rise residential developments have been built away from the core of the city, the part of the city closest to the ocean.

Ocean views = $$$ in real estate development

Agreed. There’s gotta be office space elsewhere m.

How amazing would it be to see that shack torn down and a seriously impressive 24 storey Neo Art Deco high rise go up in its place.

Even better, would be if a specialized surgical hospital could be incorporated into such a development over 5 floors or something.

Would really bring things back full circle for “hospital hill”

I’d think would have views of Ken. Bay

This would be the view from 168ft above ground level at East Point.

Looks like the ocean views would be more noticeable than the views of the Kennebecasis Bay.

Would definitely have great views of the rolling hills of the river valley, though.

Telegraph Journal is reporting that a new 72-unit, 4-building housing complex is planned for Anglin Drive (where the baseball field is). Being built by Fredericton based developer, Erik De Jong, through the organization called Atlantic Community Housing (ACH) Ltd. Project start date is planned for late summer or early fall, he said “ideally, August or September”. He is working with Maple Leaf Homes to do modular home construction to help speed the project along.

CBC article this morning on Irving's proposal to create a 500 stall parking lot in Wolastoq Park. Proposal comes to council next Monday.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-bruns...il-planning-advisory-committee-1.7449470

As an aside, I was a little surprised to read the mill only has 350 permanent employees these days. Growing up on the Westside many years ago I was always under the impression the number was more like 700-ish. Maybe it's just another example of how automation and technology allow companies to produce more with less people?

It's possible they divided it up like that, as they are separate operations

From tonight's council meeting - J.N. Lafford Realty Inc. is purchasing 324 Charlotte Street from the city (surplus land).

This is the same developer as the Three Sisters/Gateway Towers in Moncton, is it not?

What are they up to?

2.5 acres at the very end of Charlotte (fronting on Vulcan St) down towards Tin Can beach......Very interesting!

Maybe Envision Saint John will finally get their wish of a high rise with ocean views.

The lot is shown below; it is not an insignificant size and includes most of the parking lot off Sydney Street.

Also, note that the parking lot is one of only three official snow-ban lots on the peninsula.

Wicked!

Let’s wait and see what they’ve got planned. Good to see SJ attract some developers with a track record.

Trying to debate the Sunnyside development and the parking lot in one night wasn't the best idea.

I'm glad to see Sunnyside got unanimous approval. Hopefully, this will progress quickly.

Where is the land owned by dormant Landmark project in relation to this parcel? Across Sydney St to the east?

The discussion around the proposal to place a parking lot in Wolastoq Park raised some good points about Simm's Corner. If rail traffic to the port continues to grow at some point those level crossing are going to have to go. Big $$$.

How bad would it be to cut and cover ~300 feet from east of Fairville Blvd to north of Main St W? There's 1,300 feet from the Route 1 overpass to get the grade down to Moosehead's level. Any railway guys here have an idea?

Relatedly, has talk of adding a second set of tracks from the port to (eventually) the Lancaster Logistics Park gone anywhere? Any burying of the Simm's Corner crossing would hopefully take that into account.

I think right now the issue is who will pay for the change. I suspect that NB Southern/JDI is not going to want to deal with the cost themselves, and will leverage the traffic issues at Simms Corner to force the province and city to bear a large portion of the cost under the guise of not holding up economic development, etc.. Either way, it can't happen until the Harbour Bridge is finished, otherwise travel through the city would grind to a halt if both Main St. W. and the bridge were under construction at the same time.
