You'd be surprised. You can get a abortion later in California 24 weeks than anywhere in Canada barring an exception. Even 20 weeks is difficult here

Guns for sure you're right. Labour mostly as well though discrimination cases and wrongful dismissal judgements are much much larger tracking with general protection by lawsuit in the US.

Education is controlled by teachers unions in many states much more than anywhere in Canada. There are free meals for kids. Better individualize Education Plans. Magnet schools (Toronto has a few but nowhere near the level we see in Liberal cities). Meanwhile many province give public money to private schools a policy considered radically right wing in the US. The idea of Catholic schools funded by the state would also be considered extremely right wing.

A problem with health care is the lack of family doctors, its too expensive, to open an office, hire staff and run the office, most would rather it seems find a specialty and avoid being a family doctor, BC is trying to address the problem now with SFU.

There are so many small differences between the USA and Canada to work out if it does happen.
For example my brother had a work buddy who got a job in Texas and was excited to move down there and work and stay there, but because he had no credit history he found it impossible to get a rental or a mortgage and was told it would take a while to build that up so his options for housing weren't that great, motels or a place that might not be up to standards that would forgo a credit check. Would a Canadian credit history count after the takeover?
Retirement is somewhat different, what happens to CPP? does it just disappear into the US coffers? We don't have 401Ks etc, I don't know many employers who give a retirement plan anymore, my last company job the company would match any contributions to an RRSP up to a certain limit, I'm not too sure how common that is these days. Back in my dads day he got a company pension that was pretty generous and when he passed away 50% of that pension went to my mom as well as his extended benefits. How many older Canadians are ready to retire without a CPP?

Well, in Canada we don't have that either, it's up to the provinces, which seems more legit. We don't have all the negativity up here that they seem to have with their system.

I would agree currently the most liberal states in the union are California, Oregon and Washington state. If they ever get tired of dealing with the other states in the union we should welcome them into the Canadian federation as provinces.

Free meals for kids is something we should adopt as well as expanding $10 day care. There are things we can learn from our progressive friends to the south.

Isn’t it racist to insinuate that immigrants are less loyal Canadians than people who have been established here for longer?

Anyway, I take Trump at his word, he won't do this militarily, he will do this economically, if annexing is his actual plan and goal. I also wonder how much of our standard of living are we willing to give up while opposing joining the US.
How many Canadians will be in body bags if we are annexed because of all the guns that will get in Canada? Or by not having access to healthcare or medications?

How much of our standard of living are we willing to give up by joining the US?

If the polls are to be believed, 40% of the fighting age population would support annexation. A larger percentage than that for men. The amount of capable people willing to fight and die for an independent Canada is probably vanishingly small. I guess that's what happens when the ruling gerontocracy has made screwing over their kids state policy.

And obviously the threat of dying in the USA health care system is far less scary than the threat of dying by an American drone strike. It's silly to even make the comparison.

Would they still be that keen yo join the U.S. as a territory, with no real representation in Washington, no trade 1$ CA for 1$ US and all the American social problems and crimes moving to Canada?

There is no way the Republicans would let Canada join as a state.

Yes, it would be pretty bad economically but the same people expected to do the fighting would be the ones least affected. The average 20-something does not have a significant amount of savings nor do they face the prospect of all of their housing wealth going up in smoke as Canada turns into an oversized upstate New York. They would just move south for better career prospects, a scenario that's even more likely if the Free Canada resistance force of Gen X and boomers decides to turn the area into the next Iraq.

Hawaii is pretty liberal as well, and I wonder if their sovereignty movement would see things as being a little easier going under Canada than under the US.

lol...I take it you are not very familiar with US history. Places like Iraq, Vietnam, and Afghanistan has done considerable damage to US targets during occupation. There are third World countries, tens of thousands of miles away, without the infrastructure, education, and military intelligence of a first World country.

It's all but guaranteed that if the US ever attacked Canada, it would destroy America as we know it. Guerrilla warfare, suicide bombings, and drone attacks against strategic American targets would be the norm. It would also turn ethnic Canadians living in the United States, viewed as "enemies of the state," and subject to persecution.

It would certainly spill into US territory, due to the largest land border in the World. It would be worse than the Ukraine War, which had bled Russia of it's economy, and military strength. We would certainly get intelligence and aid from most European allies, and others.

One would be surprised how quickly young people would stop entertaining the idea of joining the US, when faced with a very real threat of annexation. In fact, it's already happening. Young people, who are naturally more susceptible to enemy propaganda (Twitter, Sun News, National Post, Rebel News, True North, etc.), have seen the light, and have become patriotic for the first time ever. Trump's threats are uniting the country, and probably doing more to divide an already fractured America.

It's exactly what happened in Ukraine nearly 15 years ago. Many Ukrainians. especially in the eastern Provinces, entertained the thought of joining Russia or at least breaking off from the Ukraine, only to come to their senses, once Russia marched into the country, and annexed the Crimea. Trump is emulating Putin, and it will not end well for him, or the USA.

This is the funniest post I've read in a while. Literally laughed out loud.

Canadians...engaging in suicide bombings? Holy shit. Get a grip man.

Don't worry, it's all make belief anyways. We're not getting invaded.

Also, its 43%.

EDIT:

Ethnic Canadians? Now I'm beginning to think this is meant to be parody. If so, congrats - you got me.

Using Tariffs to Try to Turn Canada into American State Backfired in the Past

The U.S.’s loss was Britain’s gain. Within two years of the McKinley Tariff’s passage, Canadian agricultural exports to Britain jumped from $3.5 million to $15 million, and produce and animal exports grew from $16 million to $24 million. Beginning in 1897, Canadians began granting preferential market access to British imports. And U.S. manufacturers continued to move production to Canada to bypass its tariff walls.

Canadian Minister of Trade and Commerce Mackenzie Bowell happily informed his colleagues in the Canadian Senate that “the McKinley Bill, instead of destroying the trade of this country, has only diverted it from the United States to England." He continued, "Our neighbors are cutting off their own noses to spite us.”

This episode ought to serve as a warning for Trump. Far from enabling the U.S. to annex Canada, the McKinley Tariff that Trump so admires drove the U.S.’s neighbor to the North into the arms of its main economic rival, the British.

Once again, an American president is on the brink of imposing tariffs against Canada and pushing for annexation. The two issues will undoubtedly be central in the 2025 Canadian elections. Trump’s threats could easily backfire as the McKinley Tariff did—leading to the election of Canadian politicians who promise to stand up to him, respond tit-for-tat to any tariffs he enacts, and seek other trade partners instead.

The result would be U.S. consumers paying the price at checkout lines. U.S. manufacturers might also decide to relocate to Canada. And the tariff spat could spark further conflicts with Canada down the road.

In other words, “Tariff Man” Trump would once again be cutting off his country’s nose to spite Canada.

The Ukrainians thought the exact same things in the early 2010's and look at how that turned out. There have been several movements like this. Putin's Russia, Hitler's Germany, and China to a lesser extent have all suffered through strongman rulers.

10 years ago, did anyone in this country think Canada would be threatened with annexation, by a demented madman leading the most powerful country in the World? I'm actually sad that you are in a state of denial. The MAGA movement has far more in common with a totalitarian regime than a democracy, and anyone who would discount the similarities between this situation in the one with Russia in the Ukraine, may want to get their head out of the clouds.

BlackDog, you will need to reduce the amount of the article you are posting. Remember, three paragraphs at most.

If they like the U.S. so much, they can migrate there fairly easily. If they didn't do it yet, they are not that committed to becoming Americans. It is easier to answer something on a pool than to see something happening for real, especially when you realize there are unforeseen negative consequences.
