Beaches-EY is my Riding and can tell you that demographics are changing. The city is expensive and not just any public service worker can easily live here anymore.

The Municipal Councilor for this riding is Brad Bradford I would say an Ontario PC. A thorn in Chow's side.

The new PCs are the Brad Bradford and Stephen Lecce's.

The Liberals may keep it, but its not a stranglehold anymore.

Looks like our own techbros are going to take a page from the Muskbag's book and insert themselves into the Canadian election. If anyone uses Shopify here, replace it.

A group with the backing of top Canadian tech entrepreneurs has launched an effort to promote policies ahead of a general election this year.

The “Build Canada” website appeared on Tuesday with a list of supporters featuring several members of the executive team at Shopify Inc., venture capitalist and entrepreneur Anthony Lacavera, as well as the co-founders of artificial intelligence startup Cohere Inc. and fintech startup Wealthsimple Inc. Its core team includes former Shopify vice president Daniel Debow and former government official Lucy Hargreaves, now head of corporate affairs at tech company Patch...

Shopify CEO Lütke says Canada’s tariff response ‘the wrong choice’

The head of one of Canada’s largest companies has criticized the federal government’s decision to impose retaliatory tariffs on the United States, saying the move is “simply the wrong choice” and that better options were available.
Shopify Inc. founder and chief executive Tobi Lütke wrote in a post on X on Saturday that he is disappointed by the decision of U.S. President Donald Trump to impose 25-per-cent tariffs on Canadian goods. But he is also “disappointed” in Canada’s response, and appeared to take at face value Mr. Trump’s insistence that he is punishing the country with tariffs because of lax border controls and fentanyl smuggling.

“Trump believes that Canada has not held its side of the bargain, and he set terms to prove that we still work together: get the borders under control and crack down on fentanyl dens,” Mr. Lütke wrote. “Leadership is about doing what’s right, not what is popular. And hitting back will not lead to anything good. America will shrug it off. Canada will decline.”...

The current number would mean the Liberals would be official opposition almost for sure. The only way they wouldn't is if they get defeated by narrow margins in quite a few seats. The NDP has been losing support the the Liberals and there's the possibility of some NDP seats going Liberal under current polling numbers.

That's for sure!!

If anyone missed it, here is PP's response to the Trump tariff threats. Listen to how angry he sounds. In my opinion he won't have a good election campaign if he talks this way:

Most of the irritants are gone. The critical issue is the Orange Buffoon. Which party will be the best in combating this existential threat?

PP may be seen as too closely aligned with the Orange Buffoon. This could prove toxic. So far the Liberal efforts seem to be working.

I think the upcoming federal election is now up for grabs. I don't think PP should be that keen on forcing an immediate election. It might be better to let things play out and see..........
You're right that PP wanting an election ASAP may not work well for him. And you're right that many voters will likely see PP as being too much like Trump. What's really weird is that PP has changed from "Axe the Tax" to "Canada First" which is pretty much emulating Trump with "America First." Like couldn't he and his team come up with something more original? Even if he had taken the Harper campaign slogan from 2006 "Stand Up for Canada" it would be much more effective. Many companies go back to using previous slogans if they can't think of a good new one.

He's lost any contrast. Nobody can accuse Trudeau of not putting Canada first over these past few weeks. He needs to say we need to do this AND x y z which is probably make our economy resilient after 9 years of neglect. Say Trudeau is doing the best with the economy we have but it should be stronger. Canadians see through his incessant call for parliament to be recalled and just makes him look power hungry.

Why is that weird? Axe the Tax is no longer relevant as both leading Liberal contenders says they'll do that anyway. "Canada First" lets voters know he's not going to tow the Trump line on tariffs.

If it means trying to prevent the PP conservatives from winning then many NDP supporters would vote Liberal. It has happened both federally and provincially in my lifetime.

The NDP has only fallen below 15% a couple of times provincially in elections in 1999 and 2003....

BUT federally in Ontario:

The NDP received only 6% of the total votes in Ontario in 1993, 10.7% in 1997, 8.3% in 2000, 18.1% in 2004, 19.4% in 2006, 18.2% in 2008, 25.6% in 2011, 16.6% in 2015, 16.8% in 2019 and 17.8% in 2021.

So the low point was 6% and the high was 25.6%.

Wow, that has such a 1980s Ronald Reagan vibe. But so lame sounding. You know PP and his team are in trouble when they keep changing the slogan and each new slogan is pretty bad.

I had to give my head a shake at PP's comments about a "Drug Czar". He condemned the Liberals for taking action only when obliged to do so by Trump. But his announcement contains new policy proposals - why did he not introduce them a long time ago, there was nothing preventing him from doing so. Once again, I feel he has flubbed it.

Whatever is happening to him, he needs to shake it off.

He's truly stuck between a rock and a hard place. Does he want to seem reasonable and centrist, or, does he want to appeal to the fundamentalist freedumb wing of the party.

I know what I would prefer him to do, but, does he have the balls to jettison the freedumb types........
EXACTLY that!!

PP made a number of very bad moves that may come back and hurt him politically. His support of the Freedom Convoy people is supporting basically the Maple MAGA people. He made everything he talked about too much about Trudeau and not the governing Liberals. He hasn't been very clear about where he stands on most issues.

You are right about PP being stuck between a rock and a hard place. He is now in limbo more than ever and has changed the slogans on the sign in front of him a lot lately as nothing he is trying is playing well. He was angry at Trudeau which played well due to Trudeau's unpopularity but if he acts the same way to Carney he will look ridiculous.

The only thing that we really know that he stands for is becoming boring and irrelevant. The "Canada First" is too much like Trump. Like I wrote before, he needs a better slogan if people are to take him seriously.

The best of all would be "Dump the Trump!"

How about those egg prices?

It would be hilarious if Carney becomes PM and decides to call a snap election. PP has been whining about one for a year and suddenly wants to wait?

So why does he not want to call an election immediately? What changed?

I don’t understand the hand wringing from the Liberals on this thread. Every poll in recent weeks including the Ekos robo poll has the Tories in the low 40s and the Liberals in the low 20s. That is a crushing liberal defeat. Is there some internal polling somebody has access to?

Or, as someone once said, the election campaign hasn’t begun yet. The numbers may carry more weight at that time.

True, but polls a few months before an election are usually pretty indicative of the final result. Also, there is no evidence of the ongoing PP collapse the Liberals are talking about.
