What's your idea for that?

Maybe he's thinking of another bridge crossing over the Red River Floodway, or maybe he's thinking of building another road around the floodway?

I think Prairie Grove Road from 207 to 59 could be upgraded and paved in the future. Doesn't need to be a provincial Highway, but could make a good hardtop detour to Highway 1. And maybe this is what a Symington Road bridge crossing could look like. It could give an Alternate access to the Perimeter and make building the Interchange at Symington Road worth it. To cut the costs, you could even use Dawson Road to link Prairie Grove with the Perimeter. This may not be needed for years anyways, but maybe upgrades to Prairie Grove Road East could help.

For the bypass, I’ll be using @anothyk’s proposal. The bypassed section will be reverted to 2 lanes and serve the East Perimeter Office on the east side of the Floodway. Once it crosses the Floodway, maybe it can cross PTH-100 and join Jackson Road?

Out of curiosity, was the two Dawson Roads on both sides of the floodway connected by bridge at one point? Or were they connected prior to the floodway being built?

Also, I feel like for the time being paving Prairie Grove Road from 59 to 207 would be enough for now. A bridge to connect Dawson would be a good long term solution. Since Highway 59 is expressway from Ile Des Chenes it would make sense to use existing infrastructure than building new.

They completed these projects last year. They widened and structurally upgrades all of the structures.

Dawson Road (trail) was the only road once upon a time. It ran from St. Boniface all the way out past Richer and beyond. Literally the trail to what's now Winnipeg. It was disconnected when the floodway was installed. Lagimodiere also is on part of the old route.

Ah, thanks. Guess that shows how long it's been since going that way for me.

There was actually talk of upgrading Rd53N to give Lorette residents an option other than 207 through to Deacon's Corner.

If you wanted to go by the rule of thumb of 2 miles between interchange locations along 59. Road 53N would make sense. 54N would also work as it comes down along side the highway.

But ya for this stretch of highway from the floodway to Ile Des Chenes, interchanges at:

53N / Southside Rd (north Grande Pointe)
51N / Oak Grove Rd (south Grande Point)
49N / Van Gorp Road (north Ile Des Chenes)
PR 210 at the drain (south Ile Des Chenes)

This would close the main access right in Ile Des Chenes which everyone would probably hate. Maybe provide a flyover there and allow local access. All pie in the sky I know..

Posting this again to save some time searching for my original post. I agree with using the "old" section west of PR 207 for access to the Govt. yard/office.

Province could potentially make some money by selling parts of the old ROW to allow for some more stores and/or hotels to be built there.

Looking back at this, one could probably modify the geometry a bit on the east side to save a few million worth of new lanes.

That's the downside of being next to the railway. You either need to move that entire stretch of highway over, which seems like a big waste; have a boat load of curves which is not good; or have to grade separate all the ramps and everything over the railway.

I made this back in 2020 and am quite embarrassed by it now after looking at the one you posted.

Additional fun facts - St Anne's road used to go cross the floodway through Grande Pointe (Now Hallama dr./ PR 300), through Ile des chênes (now main street and Lamoureux rd.), following now PR 210 to Linden where there is still a road name St Anne's road.

It currently dead ends at a municipal road, so I can't piece together where it's alignment used to continue. I found online snippets saying it went to Ste Anne (as per the name) and Steinbach. Not sure if there was a branch in the road, or it wound itself northward to Ste Anne then south to Steinbach.

It must have hooked northeasterly from where it dead ends towards the town of Ste Anne.

https://www.gov.mb.ca/mao/map_landusedev/index.html

If you look at property boundaries of some of the river lot parcels southwest of Ste Anne you can see snippets of the closed right of way of the old road.

Pretty cool history. Similar to the part of Route 90 called Oak Point Highway which used to be the original trail out to the community of Oak Point on Lake Manitoba (I think Notre Dame is part of that original road as well) or Pipeline Road which used to go to Winnipeg's original water source up by Oak Hammock Marsh before the Shoal Lake pipeline was built in 1910's.

Thanks! I guess I had more free time when I drew this up in 2021!
