Which do you think attributes to the expansion of the heat island effect more, an 10 story mid-rise condo/apartment building with 230 units, or a neighborhood with 230 single family homes… guarantee you they won’t like the answer!

I don't think that's their rationale. They don't want more development in Scottsdale. They want Scottsdale to be more of a quiet bedroom community with development occurring elsewhere. Opposition to various projects has consistently been based on views and traffic whether it was Axon, 92 and Shea, or Osborn and Hayden.

This project already has enough precedent to continue with the predictable-for-Scottsdale level of development in the immediate area.

Powerful citizens groups getting angry because they can don't seem to have a lot of legality to operate, but this has happened to kill deals before which is why they are going through the petition process.

Do the NIMBY's opposing this deal have anything more than that?

I really don't get it in this case, id be more empathetic if it was a tall or heavily industrial development or near neighborhoods but its none of those things

There has been vocal opposition to several multifamily projects in Scottsdale which has impacted developer's proposals (e.g. Osborn and Hayden; 92 and Shea). In this case, Axon paid the state land department based on industrial zoning which is a much lower price than residential which means Axon deprived the state education fund by quite a bit of money. I'm not aware of Axon attempting to pay the state what the land is worth as residential either. This has added fuel to the opposition. Additionally, several of the new city council members campaigned on opposition to density and a few members of the old council who were more pro multifamily (e.g. Durham, Caputi) lost their seats. So this isn't simply a matter of this particular project being "worse" than others. Multifamily opposition's influence on the city council has grown.

Scottsdalians...did you make that up?

The hatred for it baffles me.
Never heard that one before...but, maybe they use that now. My first 20 years of my life: Mockingbird Lane just south of the corner of Cheney and Mockingbird. House built in 1959 - parents paid $36,000. My mother even had some trouble selling it for $125,000 in 1980. Now, someone bought it for 2M a couple of years ago - and just scraped it off the face of the earth a few months ago. If we only knew what Phoenix would become 45 years later. I don't know who has that kind of money. We never said Paradise Valley...or, north/central/south Scottsdale. It was all just Scottsdale.

I am reading the comments regarding the proposed Axion(?) corporate headquarters being built along the 101. There is always public input/comments when a big project is going to be built. Unless it has been killed...it will probably get built - but, if all parties agree - with some concessions. I'm thinking the resistance might be coming from the neighborhood to the south: There is the Princess Hotel - and a nice neighborhood by the resort. Maybe, they are scared of additional traffic...congestion...etc.

Someone stated that some folks are trying to retain the small town feel ...Ha! Good luck with that! Old Scottsdale died a very long time ago.

Like someone else said - they cut their own nose to spite their face and will likely get tilt slab concrete walls as far as the eye can see instead. Good.
Whoa...a little rough - don't you think? Maybe, a show of a little respect to other's point of view. I don't know how old you are but, you may come to regret that kind of thinking and those kind of comments to others around you - as you get older.

OK which one is it? I think you were correct the first time. Let's keep 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 politics out of this.

Its really strange especially since the whole Airpark area was where Scottsdale intended to banish its major commercial projects and generic multi family.

There is an open political group formed against this Axxon campus its bizarre.

It's against the general plan and the area specific plan (Crossroads East), there was only supposed to be industrial east of Hayden there. It's actually a pretty big amendment to the area specific plan, they're adding like 30% more units than what the entirety of it was programmed for.

Where is our Governor in all of this? Still can't figure out how to dial 9 to call out of the executive tower? Say what you want about the Dunce who was here before her but at least he knew how to wheel and deal. I mean this is a major corporation on the verge of leaving the state just seems bizarre you wouldn't want to keep the jobs to make for a campaign ad...which she is desperately going to need based on the current polls....but then again her constituents are largely the ones being tased lol.

Her constituents are all Arizonans, whether they voted for her or not. Which segment of the population are you stereotyping as "being tased"?

You answered the question with a question, not surprising I guess I'll wait for the non- apologist to answer objectively.

She's unpopular and almost certain to lose next year so she's more concerned with angling for her next move than doing anything to help the state.

I wouldn't expect anything worthwhile out of her.

There are many creative screen names on this board, but I don't recall anyone identified as "non- apologist."

Yes, but did he ever consider buying and annexing the Mexican state of Sonora? Arizona would have its own coastline! We could build a huge port - that would rival - and take away business - from the Port of L.A and Long Beach!!!!

(I mean this is a major corporation on the verge of leaving the state just seems bizarre you wouldn't want to keep the jobs)
It's called "The California factor." Trust me - THEY DON'T CARE!!!!

Her budget director just resigned due to a missing $339 million in unaccounted funds from the state budget...it's safe to say this administration is incompetent and an embarrassment to the state...but we're getting off topic here...
