Apartments and SROs. Not sure if this is the first new build SRO in Winnipeg since the 20s but here we are haha.

Such an odd comment, especially since the exterior hasn't even been started in this photo.

Even if it ends up being a bit plain, in this case utility trumps aesthetics IMO. If this building is going to include some Single Room Occupancy units, it's providing housing to people who may otherwise not be able to afford housing of any kind.

Personally I'd prefer Winnipeg be the city that aggressively tackles homelessness, than the city that is filled with pretty skyscrapers only the wealthiest can afford.

Of course, if we can have both, all the better!!

The ARC and ALIGN buildings on Pembina would probably fit the definition of SROs for most of their units, although they are expensive and target students.

Interesting note, The Village nightclub has been sold. They are shutting down after one last New Years Eve bash. I have no info on what the buyer is proposing, but I would like to think it would be for another multi-family development.

Is that the old Blockbuster video site? I think there was a render floating around a few years ago for the two houses immediately south. Maybe it’s part of a larger assembly?

The queer bookstore, Willow, is also leaving one of those houses, not sure about the waxing (?) place next door.

In other Village news, Latinos Market has moved into 224 Osborne, where the Tea Story used to be.

Thank God. I love nightlife as much as anyone but that place was poison. Just teenagers from the suburbs getting into fights, constant ambulances called for stomach pumping etc.

i live right near there. my friday evening entertainment was watching people pull donuts in the nearby snow-covered parking lot, not realizing that it's massively uneven and potholed. a lot of costly sounding suspension damage lol

i don't want to be a nimby but especially in the summer with their outdoor patio, even with our windows closed it was like being *in* the club a block+ away. i never complained but i'm also not sad it's closing.

I don't really get the hate for Zu to be honest. Yes TV's building is nicer. But the brick looks good, the CRUs will be great for the street and the orange window thing adds some interest to the village strip at night.

The brick and glass look nice, however the big orange thing on the south side and the metal cladding on the north side are both ugly. Also, the building has a very square design. It looks like a giant cube. More articulations in the facade would be nice.
