Speaking of convertibles, some car spotting in Burlingame. Was also Cybertruck central (saw at least 5 of them) but didn't bother taking pictures of them.

Saw this near my work today, a 6th generation Toyota Celica (1994-1999). A rarity nowadays! I'm really digging some 1980s-1990s Japanese cars. I could be wrong but I think these had actual glass headlight lenses. Nowadays, headlights are plastic, and they turn yellow/cloudy over time if you park your car out in the sun!

Not sure what particular model year this is... I think it's before the refresh, which happened in 1996 or '97?

^ Nice find! I don't see them very often either. Usually by now they've been modified. Hard to find one in original condition like that.

I believe that is the post facelift model as indicated by the tail lights.

Ah OK, I wasn't sure. I thought maybe the refresh had the white/clear front turn signal lenses (and I believe a slightly different front fascia with a bigger "mouth?"), but maybe that was only on the GT model. Being that this car has the steel wheels with non-OEM aftermarket wheel covers, maybe this was an ST.

A friend of mine from college had a white '96 Celica liftback... I prefer the look of the liftbacks from this generation vs. the coupes... more sporty-looking in my opinion. Funny enough, I prefer the look of the coupes on the 4th generation Celicas---I had a friend from high school who had a red '88 Celica coupe.

Incidentally, thanks to Youtube, I've learned that in the UK and possibly Australia and Canada, they pronounce "Celica" as "seh-LEE-kuh", which blew my mind. I've never thought to pronounce it that way.

Of course everyone in the US pronounces it "SELL-ih-kuh".

Looks like the airbags deployed too, on both vehicles. I learned from my coworker friend, who used to be a car insurance adjuster, that once the airbags deploy, the car is considered a total loss, they won't bother trying to repair it.

A photo of me taken in August of 1971, when I was 16 months old. In front of my parents' brand new 1971 Chevy Camaro, bought from Hansen Chevrolet in West Los Angeles. We had that car until I was 7. I remember the rear license plate hinged downwards, and behind it was the gas cap.

Yup. Especially on newer vehicles. That F-150 has at most two, the Nissan probably has at least eight and would cost ten grand plus the rest of the damage. The F-150 is about 20 years old probably with a ton of miles and just not worth it and will go to a junk yard but the Nissan might go to auction.

When I saw that F-150, I immediately noticed it looked like it belonged to a pool company with all that swimming pool equipment. And then I saw the guy with the pool company shirt. I felt bad for him, he was probably on his way to work and then this happened.

I guess I didn't think about that possibility with the Nissan; I thought it would end up at a junkyard as well. I'd be wary of buying a car at auction, then... It might be a car that was in a really bad accident, with replaced airbags. My guess is that car insurance companies don't pay for replaced airbags because there's too much liability involved, because improperly installed airbags can deploy and kill or seriously injure a passenger.
