LCBO moved to Place Bell. WEP was more central, but oh well.

Happy to see they are looking for a restaurant tenant for the old LCBO space. Having a restaurant terrace on the plaza will help liven up the area.

Still very disappointed they didn't take this opportunity to plug into Parliament Station.

I checked out the renos a few weeks back. The place looks great, but still very empty. A big new restaurant would do wonders.

As for the LCBO, it is kind of crazy that they closed WEP when they opened in Place Bell. There is a glaring hole on the west side of downtown. An LCBO in any of the complexes west of Bank would do great. Hoping that they are looking at Releve.

I was thinking the same, Relevé would be a good spot for an LCBO to balance the offerings Downtown. Moon and Relevé should have a huge and positive impact on retail selection in a very dense part of town that has been underserved for decades.

They closed in WEP in part because the WEP retail levels were being ripped down to the studs. It's not like they could have stayed.

Fair enough. Was just thinking that they could have gone back. But something a bit further west is probably ideal.

It might be my imagination, but I thought CD Howe once had an LCBO.

It did. It's a migratory LCBO; that branch was the one that relocated to WEP, and then to Building Formerly Known As Place Bell.

I did hear scuttlebutt that Mr. Lickbo was looking to re-establish a truly CBD location, though.

CD Howe and WEP were two different stores. The WEP LCBO relocated to Place Bell; the CD Howe one, if I remember correctly, is the one that ended up at Bank and McLeod.

I’m sure CD Howe closed way before Bank and McLeod opened. Maybe it was dormant for a while.

Loss of Dairy Queen is sad, but I guess Baskin Robins is a suitable replacement. All the kids stores in this city have been closing the last few years. We don't need another Tim Hortons.

I live a block away and although I am not a Tim Hortons fan, I really don't mind them opening a store here. It adds diversity to the retail mix. Funny how Westboro had a lot of working-class blue collar establishments 25 years ago — smoky bars like Puzzles where occasional brawls broke out, several grimy repair garages and greasy diners — and now people think it's all chi-chi yoga pants.

The good thing about yoga pants is that they're stretchy if you happen to eat a donut or two.

What’s with the anti-Dairy Queen sentiment in Ottawa? They seem to do fine in the rest of Ontario, but a lot seem to have closed in the last 20 years (Elgin, Rideau, Rideau Centre, Beachwood, St Laurent, now Westboro). Most of the ones left are pretty dodgy.

I think that the DQ at Merivale and Merivale has finally closed for good, also.

So what does that leave? Bells Corners, Bank at Riverdale, any others?

Still 2 in Kanata and both seem to be going strong. I love a little DQ on a hot summer day!

Yep, still one on McArthur. But it sells burgers and has indoor seating, so I don't consider it the real thing.

Nothing wrong with Dairy Queen per se but everyone I know prefers Baskin Robbins (between those two) if for no other reason than it’s actual ice cream.
