It is definitely not obvious or user friendly especially when the public can exit from those same doors that they cannot enter. Heck there is no reason one person exiting those doors may not hold them open and let someone else in.

If they wanted that building to be restricted access they really should have had the Liquor Mart be a two floor store be located on the ground level with an outside entrance.

Biff posted a render of the HAF project that's going up in Chinatown on the Exchange District thread. I like it for the area.

I think it looks good & respects what exists nicely.
I do however, not see a CRU anywhere whatsoever from this rendering so far, which is what the Chinatown masterplan has always been bullish on.
I sure hope adjacent lots soon get redeveloped.
Hopefully that will spur any type of future retail activity, with more residents.
Many buildings in neglect or empty.
On the positive, There have been a couple buildings added recently.

I think it'll be a good catalyst for the area. With all the lofts on Princess and the two apartments across from Siloam Mission, more people in the area will spur more and more development. I'm hoping the Chinatown masterplan, like you mentioned, comes to fruition because that was a beautiful little render

Does anyone have an idea where Downtown this might be situated?
A new structure or a few floors of an existing one?

A federal headquarters focused on freshwater in Canada is coming to Winnipeg.

Steven Guilbeault, the federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change, announced on Wednesday the Canada Water Agency will be based in Winnipeg.
Gillingham said the agency will be in downtown Winnipeg, which will also help with the continued revitalization of the core.

The federal government committed $85.1 million in the 2023 budget over five years to create the agency and in June, a bill was passed to make it a standalone entity.

Provincial Municipal Board to be weakened under new legislation. Looks like a good move from the province that could boost residential development and avoid nuisance objections from small groups of local NIMBYs.

Great news! Changing the threshold from 25 appellants to 300 appellants is completely reasonable considering that we live in a city of about 820,000 people. Now it's time to make the same change at City Council. It currently only takes 1 person to appeal a project to the Appeals Committee, which can add months (and $100,000's) to a project. I think a reasonable threshold would be 100 people.

Seriously, that's absurd. Hopefully that will change as well.

I know some people here really dislike the P3 model. I'm not sure I know enough about it to comment, but it sounded like these school were not a "done deal" in any case. It's too bad there will be delays if these schools were desperately needed.

The Sumka Brothers Greenhouse site on Pegus St in Transcona has been cleared of the Greenhouse structure for the school that was suppose to go in as part of the P3 projects.

Does anybody know if the Sumka family still own the land or did the RETSD buy the land in anticipation of funding coming thru?

If the site was only held on an option and a developer gets it because of no school funding, it will be hard to get another site that size in the area.
