Richmond/Delta/Surrey/West Van all run pretty conservative, but it's not exactly the yeehaw, drill baby drill, this truck is fueled by liberal tears, Alberta breed of conservative. Williams Lake and Cranbrook on the other hand...

saw this on facebook, some of these candidates my gawd.

Quote:
So, before the Cons and “Liberals” linked arms in an attempt to turn our province into a haven for the wealthy, of BC, this is what the BC United Party had as opposition research on some of the candidates in the BC Con party. Remember, despite the looney-toons beliefs of these mental midgets, the BCUP is perfectly happy to accept these beliefs in their new coalition of the right.
Please vote formNDP or Green and keep these dangerously ill-informed people out of government.

So, if you’re curious about a few of the BC Conservatives running for election in BC, read on…
Mike Harris, the BC Conservative candidate for Langford, claims it is possible to “kill” COVID-19 simply by “blowing a hair dryer up one’s nose.”

Sheldon Clare, the BC Conservative candidate for Prince George–North Cariboo, says Canada is like 1933 Germany and that he is “willing to commit insurrection.”

Jordan Kealy, the BC Conservative candidate in Peace River North, claims there is a “government plan to eat bugs” and “control the weather.”

Bryan Tepper, the BC Conservative Surrey-Panorama candidate, has promoted the idea that the storming of the Capitol building in the US didn’t happen.

John Koury, the BC Conservative candidate for the Cowichan Valley, claims that Donald Trump actually won the last US election.

Harman Bhangu, the BC Conservative for Langley-Abbotsford, argues that the storming of the Capitol was done by “Antifa” dressed up as Trump supporters. He criticized the
Vancouver Canucks who wore pride-themed practice jerseys saying “There is nothing to be proud of.”

Kristina Loewen, the BC Conservative for Kelowna Centre, promotes far right conspiracy theories against a “UN world order.”

Chris Sankey, the BC Conservative candidate for North Coast–Haida Gwaii, claims that efforts to combat climate change are a “depopulation conspiracy.”

Paul Ratchford, the BC Conservative candidate for Vancouver-Point Grey, supports calls for the arrest of Bonnie Henry. He says “Violent anti-social trans extremists increasingly define the [Pride] movement.” He has called for defunding the CBC. He has called for defunding the University of BC because it hired a professor specializing in race and ethics.

Bryan Breguet, the BC Conservative candidate in Vancouver–Langara, attacks mothers who do not breastfeed by saying “You f–king decided to have a baby! Act as a f–king mother! Jesus Chris, get your priorities right.”

Rosalyn Bird, the BC Conservative candidate in Prince George-Valemount, promotes the idea that Pride supporters as “groomers” and that the government wants to “castrate kids.”

Tim Thielmann, BC Conservative candidate in Victoria–Beacon Hill, said it was “Gross” that people objected to a white supremacist daycare that advertised itself as a “whites-only” space for “proud parents of European children” looking to “escape forced diversity.”

The common thread that appears in most of the Conservative rhetoric, both federally and provincially is an impatience with empathy. Most of the anecdotes and messaging seems to be a short tempered response to so-called “wokeness”.

It’s abundantly clear to me that BC Conservatives, if elected, will move the dial back on initiatives that are empathetic to the plight of the marginalized in British Columbia. Green initiatives, SOGI, initiatives to reduce poverty and homelessness, initiatives to bring equality and fairness to marginalized people will all be up for repeal or outright
abolishment by the BC Conservatives.

Now that I’m officially a senior citizen, I’m in the demographic that might typically be welcoming the old fashioned conservative value set. But, allow me to assure you that I am embarrassed and deeply disappointed by the hateful diatribe from the right wing. It is narrow minded, xenophobic, intolerant, mean spirited and Uncanadian.

As I’ve been saying it was bound to happen this stuff would come out and the BC Cons would see their support decrease as we got close to election day. Cold comfort to Kevin Falcon now.

It's just facts. 80% of the population of BC lives west of Hope.

The election will be won or lost based on how the coast and metro vancouver votes. The interior doesnt matter

Rather, the election depends on how the suburbs and Fraser Valley vote. Everybody knows that half the province always turns orange and half always blue, but the swing ridings actually determine who gets to form a government.

I guess it really depends on the "swing" districts, they could be anywhere, but they are not where I live.
They are usually in the confused areas that aren't really fully urban or fully rural.

To be fair, Bcasey25raptor is right about 80% of the population living west of Hope, in cities such as Prince George, Williams Lake, and Quesnel.

Agree with the other posters; perhaps we can refrain from insulting half the province, on the first day of advance voting.

Keep in mind there are still plenty of swing votes in the Interior, and a good chunk of folks don't want the type of conservatism the provincial party is selling. Those orange-blue voters might show up and vote NDP after all, now that there has been a week's worth of gaffes and an as-yet-uncosted platform to consider. But they definitely won't do that if they keep being told they're all bigots and idiots.

(Not that they're reading any of our expert opinions...)

Does it not interest you at all that people in Castlegar (Kootenay-Monashee) and Nelson (Kootney Central) are more politically similar to you than your neighbours across the river in Richmond-Queensborough or down the street in Vancouver-Quilchena?

If we're being completely honest, the North Interior and Okanagan matter equally as little as Victoria and East Vancouver/Burnaby.The election is truly going to be decided by Richmond, Surrey, and the general South Fraser/Interior region (Chilliwack, Fraser-Nicola, Boundary-Similkameen, Kootney Central).

The stupid notion that Interior folks are right-wing MAGA hicks or Christian fanatics drives me crazy. Many people are reliant on resource extraction and deregulation which is why they will always vote for a right-wing party. On the flip side, there are a sizeable amount of forestry workers that will vote NDP out that way.

I have lived in Alberta and the Interior of BC. The most socially right-wing/conservative people I have met reside in Richmond and North Vancouver...and it's well known in the Iranian or Chinese community.
