A longtime fixture of Hamilton’s restaurant scene is closing permanently — just as it was slated to reopen after a months-long shutdown.
The Black Forest Inn announced on social media Tuesday that the King Street East eatery would not reopen as planned — just weeks after another announcement suggested the restaurant would be making a comeback.
“It is with great regret that we announce the permanent closure of the Black Forest Inn due to unforeseen financial challenges,” the post read. “Despite our best efforts to bring back the establishment you’ve cherished … we are unable to move forward at this time.”
The latest announcement comes amid a time of upheaval for the iconic 58-year-old Bavarian restaurant.
In early September, the restaurant wrote on social media that it would not reopen after the summer as planned “due to financial constraints,” noting that it would be closed “until further notice.”
Later that month, those plans appeared to change, with the eatery announcing it would reopen in early October with a sponsorship deal with German beer company Krombacher.
