RIP Carlton students.

That is absurd.
It's all about that balanced approach Mark is going for. Can't wait for his next IG selfie video in front of the Carleton Line 2 station talking about how the provincially-funded public school system sent all these pesky car-less kids to post-secondary, so it's only fair that Queen's Park should pay for the entire transit system to support them.

Crazy to me that on the CBC website you have articles discussing insane parking problems due to federal workers commuting downtown, and RIGHT NEXT TO THAT STORY is the article that City Council voted down providing better service on OC Transpo.

Here's a goddam idea: DOUBLE service on OC Transpo and HALF the price from now until January 1st. Fire sale. Eat it up. Jannette from Orleans would happily ride a bus from here to kingdom come if it cost half price.

Instead, we're cutting service, and indicating that transit fares might actually be higher than monthly parking rental. insane.

lala land. f*cking people.

I can't take OC Transpo because I drive from place to place for work, and this week has been by far the worst traffic since COVID hit. We're back to 2019. Not to mention these f*cking public servants who haven't commuted downtown from Greely in 4 years keep crashing on the 417 causing insane backups every day.

How do we pay for your plan or do we just turn off public transit for 2 months after your fire sale?

Meanwhile you think "Janette" from Orleans is going to leave her car behind to save $1.90. If parking is $23 that discounted fare is a rounding error. Meanwhile the peak service hasn't been cut enough to be a key factor for most routes. Eastern Orleans is 1 hour to 1 hour 15 by transit to downtown (longer if you need to walk to a stop or are further from a station in Centretown. Meanwhile 30 minutes by car. That is 1.5 hours of your day you are losing on public transit. Unless you consider scrolling on your phone while on the bus productive time.

As for increasing service. You might wait 10 minutes at Blair station for your bus. If you cut that to 5 that isn't much of an improvement and I bet if you poll even suburban transit users they don't want a 10% increase in transit property taxes to pay for that. Let alone the 70% of ratepayers who don't use transit.

Ticket machines at South Keys were not working properly today for Redblack ticket holders.

Pro tip.. dip your backpack to the other side of the gate without standing in front of the IR sensors on your side. Pay for what you get.

I meant Greenboro, but thanks for the sneaky way around the fare gate. I don't take a backpack to the games because of stadium security. Thankfully, an OC employee going to the game used his pass to let our group through. Others had to go to South Keys to get around the fare gates. The ticket machines failed to connect with a live ticket agent which is the normal process for ticket holders. Pretty inefficient.

Went to this afternoon's RedBlacks game. I live in Orleans and figured bus was probably the best way to get there. According to the schedule, the 455 was supposed to pick up from the Place d'Orleans park & ride every 6 minutes or so starting two hours before the game (3pm today).

Arrived at hte park & ride at 1:20pm. There were quite a few people waiting already. There was supposed to be a bus at 1:25 and 1:31pm. Neither of these showed up. Spoke with some people that were there before me and they had been waiting for 30 minutes (presumably since the first run). Finally got on a crowded bus at 1:37pm.

And they wonder why people are abaondoning transit?

The only silver lining is that is was relatively quick once a bus eventually showed up.

15 minute drive to Old Ottawa East. Free Parking. 15 minute walk across the pedestrian bridge. Easy Peasy.

Free parking is one of those sacred cows the city will need to get rid of, not just for transit but to fix their general budgetary hole. Probably anywhere within vicinity of lansdowne and other major areas

Two comments, one telling us to drive instead of using transit, and the other suggesting we ding every driver pushed off of transit with parking fees. Of course, we will also limit parking to less time than the event, so we can also hit people with a stiff fine . Sounds like we are trying to sabotage the use of city facilities like Lansdowne

When I used to work at TD place PT in 2018, I'd park at the Agricultural Museum with my car and unload my bike there. I think it was less than 10 bucks (maybe 6?)

That new parking garage at Preston and Carling is going to be gold.

Crazy that people are still complaining about parking fees in 2024.

I wonder if the city is allowed to charge for parking as that would compete with Landsdowne. Holmwood for example has free but 1 hour parking when it would seem logical to charge as it's as close as the paid parking to some locations.

I don't think Old Ottawa East needs paid parking for the people willing to park.

Sacred cows are sacred for a reason. People won't shop at stores where they have to pay. Whole Foods wouldn't have paid millions of dollars for parking if they didn't believe that.

The city lot alongside the basketball court at Lansdowne is one of the only places the city charges for parking 24/7 - it's not competition to charge for parking, it's competition to not charge for parking.

I guess residents don't get to park in metered spots with their resident permit but do get pretty good access to 1 hour spots so it's like everyhing in this city decided at a street by street level.

Multiple injured on OC Transpo, several charges laid

Marlo Glass, Ottawa Citizen
Published Sep 24, 2024 • Last updated 38 minutes ago • 1 minute read

One man faces multiple serious charges after four people were seriously injured on OC Transpo on Monday. Investigators believe there could be other victims from additional incidents.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, police and OC Transpo special constables responded to a call for an assault in progress involving multiple passengers, the Ottawa Police Service said in a press statement.

“It was later learned that the suspect had assaulted four people while uttering hate-filled comments aboard various OC Transpo buses and trains between the Algonquin College and Bayview stations,” police said.

The four victims sustained serious injuries.

Errol Rose, 26, of Ottawa, is facing numerous charges, two counts of assault, five counts of mischief, two counts of assault with a weapon, as well as single counts of aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon, uttering threats, and violating the conditions of a release order.

Rose is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222 ext. 5051.

“We continue to encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences such incidents to report them to police,” police said. “Reporting hate-motivated incidents is an important step in stopping cycles of hatred.”

Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or at crimestoppers.ca.

Odd that they omitted the fact that this scumbag is a repeat offender but then again it's pretty on brand for our lazy local "journalists"

One of the charges is "violating the conditions of a release order". That tells us that he has been up on charges before.

I was shocked to learn yesterday that OCT is still running E1 “express” buses between Blair station and downtown during rush hour. I had to commute to Blair station yesterday morning and saw an E1 bus starting its run at the bus loop as I was leaving the station. I counted a whole seven passengers get on this bus at approx. 8:10am which is pretty much the height of rush hour, when you’d expect loads to be the heaviest. Checking the schedule just now, I’m even more shocked to learn that this route operates every 10 min for 2.5 hours during morning rush and for three hours in the afternoon.

Where to begin? OCT deems it necessary to halve off peak frequency on Line 1 to save $1M yet it’s acceptable to be running a redundant bus service during rush hour for a handful of passengers? Not to mention, per the schedule, E1 only shaves a whole two minutes off the morning commute from Blair to Lyon stations compared to the O-Train (20 min vs. 22 min). And given the traffic situation these days, I’d bet in reality Line 1 is actually faster from Blair to downtown. Is there any good reason this route is operating or is it just another example of how OCT has lost the plot?
