BOULDER | A top college town

Cirrus in the West Series!
See them all: Denver, Boulder, Santa Fe, Taos, Southern Colorado, Kansas City, Saint Louis.

Howdy, Boulder. Long time no see!

The downtown pedesetrian mall is *so* good.

The University of Colorado:
(This was over the summer, so not many students.)

Big conifers all over.

Preach, Annie

University Hill, the student ghetto neighborhood adjacent to campus:

TRANSIT!

No trains in Boulder, but it has excellent frequent, well-branded buses. It's very easy to live car-free in town.

The FlatIron Flyer connects to Denver:

Locally within Boulder, frequent bus lines get special names and paint jobs. You can memorize these handful of special routes the way you'd memorize a city's rail network. It works very well.

The HOP & the SKIP are the two big ones, but there are a few others including the DASH.

Numbered buses with the basic RTD paint job are less frequent routes.

Boulder's generally considered to be one of the top US cycling cities. Excellent bike path network all over town. I didn't take many pictures of it on this trip so you'll just have to trust me. :-D

Other odds & ends, including the fabulous Dushanbe Tea House:

Colorado style pizza: Thin on the bottom, thick & doughy on the back. Drizzle honey on the bread and eat it like a side item.

"NIMBY Vernacular" architecture. I'm the only person that calls it that, but you've probably seen it in affluent areas near you. Nice, walkable shops on the bottom faced with expensive materials, a couple floors of terrace apartments above, set well back so drivers don't face the indignity of seeing them. Here's a DC example, for comparison with this common Boulder entry:

Thanks for looking!

I went to Boulder last year and it definitely seemed healthier since my last trip in like 2009 or something.

Haven't been to Boulder since 2002 but really enjoyed it, especially the pedestrian mall downtown.

Nice shots, it looks like a well preserved western town, where life is relaxed and the weather is always sunny.

I have not made it to this Colorado town yet but I hear great things. Maybe on my next trip out there.

My kids so loved climbing the boulders in the pedestrian mall. It's such a great space. I totally dug City Hall.

Nice photos, thank you for posting. Boulder looks like a great town. I think Boulder's pedestrian street is based on Church Street in Burlington.

"Based on?" Hm. I've heard they're similar but never heard one was based on the other. Can you tell me more?

It turns out like Champ the lake monster who lives in Lake Champlain, this is a myth.
