I looked at the plans today, and the design is really just adding the crosswalks and rebuilding the sidewalks at the corners. I'm sure the light-timing will be adjusted. The only change to the car lanes that I could see was adding a 3rd left turn lane from EB Portage to NB Main. This lane is being taken from the two Portage EB straight lanes.

So all the infrastructure from the releases will be for a different date?

It looks unrelated to fixing the underground membrane. It is a sidewalk job.

Yep! I was afraid some of the "keep it closed" crowd would try to re-start the "discussion" again, but it sounds like Gillingham feels the decision has been made, let's get on with it.

Great idea. It'll move a lot more traffic on the primary route at that intersection.

Carrington has shot out of a canon/nowhere to become one of the most exciting developers in Winnipeg, in my mind. Tackling projects that seemingly no one wanted to for years.

- 2 towers by Jubilee Station
- Big project on Provencher
- Large development on south St. Mary's that was long vacant/quasi-industrial on the river
- Scooping up TV's project on Donald and adding more units to it

They seem really focused on sustainable/modern/dense/infill and I'm all for it. The projects look fairly well designed so far as well. Give them HAF money.

They also picked up the burnt down under construction project on Kimberly and London.

They're doing so by making the units smaller on the same number of floors. I'm not thrilled about that.

Interesting, the last I had heard was for some reason the insurance company did not want to settle with the developer that had the project burn down, and that was why the lot stayed empty.

I drive by there a few times a week and noticed that the fencing looked better and there were no trespassing signs there now.

I wonder if they will re-build to the same plans or come up with a different project?

While there is a challenge of being able to get families living downtown, I'm happy with anything that gets anyone living downtown.

The smaller units seem to move. I've heard that in TV's building on Osborne the cheaper units all rented out first. Maybe TV can confirm if he knows.

I think with rental vacancy horribly low, people are willing to sacrifice space if they can get themselves something modern and clean at a price that won't bankrupt them.

Yeah, people ARE desperate right now and have to compromise and pay way more than they'd wish. Unfortunately that means they can't support the downtown economy after spending 2/3 income on rent.

We need many more buildings to compete against legacy landlords who've been coasting for decades on minimal effort and are charging $1900 for 2 bedrooms, but they can't all be bachelor and 1 bedroom units that people have to leave to get a 2 bedroom home (let alone 3). It's a conundrum (more HAF please).

It's such a shame The Keg developer couldn't continue with the original design.

I had a blast - I would have been out longer if I wasn't getting married tomorrow haha. I loved the alleys in the East Exchange especially. Too bad downtown isnt that vibrant all the time.
