9C and sunny in Moncton at 8 AM, going up to 25C this afternoon.

High temperatures for the seven day forecast period are generally in the 26-28C range, above normal for this time of year. Aside from some thunderstorm activity predicted for tomorrow afternoon, it will remain quite dry and sunny throughout

Covered bridge, Saint Martin's NB, Roy Morris, Facebook

This is a very rare newly constructed covered bridge. The province almost never does this. It replaced a pre-existing covered bridge. The usual provincial strategy is to let the old bridge collapse, and, either not replace it, or replace it with a (permanent) Bailey bridge. They can get away with this since most remaining covered bridges in province are on remote secondary or tertiary roads. This crossing however leads to the western entrance to the Fundy Trail, and since this is a major tourism route, the province went whole hog with a divided structure, tall enough for motor homes to get through.

The only other "new" covered bridge in the province is in Fundy National Park. It also replaced a pre-existing bridge, accidently blown up with dynamite during a road reconstruction project. Like the St. Martin's bridge, it was reconstructed in it's old format for tourism reasons.

It's such a simple thing -- a short, covered bridge. But due to the lack of them now it's unique and therefore special. This just reminded me that there's one in Waterloo County. This month I am driving to Guelph and Orangeville and on another trip, to KWC. As usual, I will take the time to explore other towns in the area, especially those I've never been to. This bridge is right between the respective routes I'll be taking.

The West Montrose Bridge is the only one remaining in Ontario. If you didn't make this post, I totally would have forgotten about it and gone about my routes and possibly missed it. If there are attraction signs about it along my route then I'd probaly go, but I have no idea if there is.

Rain over night, about 5 mm. maybe some more. But with the harvest underway we could use some dry for a couple of more weeks. then let it pour.

Beautiful day at beautiful Bon Echo.

The scale of some the rock faces never cease to amaze.

Also did this trail leading to a beaver pond

Didn't see any beavers but there was a pack of grumpy otters

Nice pics and that is a great late summer / early fall forecast.

I do have to questions those lows though. Where is your nearest weather station?

And this is not just your location specifically, The Weather Network seems to overestimate lows often, they do this all the time for Osoyoos too for example.

Sometimes I wonder if their forecasts are tailored for a lakeside location or urban heat island location (where lows are often warmer) than the airport locations (which often have the coldest lows in any given area).

Cedar Springs. Very few of those will turn out to be official 20s. The temperature often dips a little just after sunset and then rebounds, or dips a bit just before sunrise, so many of those will end up with lows around 18-19.

18C and sunny in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 26C this afternoon with thunderstorms beginning late, approximately 4 PM.

A generally perfect fall day. There is a reason why my favourite months of the year are September and October (except for the hurricanes).

overcast and smoky today. Possible rain tomorrow then low 20 for Sun and Monday. Looks like typical fall weather pattern coming. days of dry then a day or 2 of rain.

Ah, okay. That's very similar to areas such as Osoyoos and Ashcroft.

I wish I was in Canada now. After one week of more comfortable summer weather, the extreme high humidity has returned here in Japan. I'm so done with it. Feeling wet every day and the air just feels heavy to breath, not refreshing at all.

The lows here since mid July have been consistently around 26 / 27, and that's the main problem, it never cools down from the afternoon heat, if the lows dipped to around 21 or 22 then there would at least be some feeling of freshness in the morning, giving a comfortable window for running or other outdoor exercises, but that doesn't happen.

This sticky consistent heat also prevents me from riding my bike anywhere for work. I can't meet people drenched with sweat, so in the summer my reliance on my car doubles.

Beauty day and evening.

This guy headed out into the foggy haze, after sunset. Presumably sleeping on the lake under very calm conditions.

That's too hot. We have some nights like that in July, but for the most part our temperatures are ideal, at least to me, which is why I live here.

Near the lake, our temperature plateaus both night and day. It's around the high temperature
from about noon to six at this time of year. Temperature drops when the sun goes down, then sometimes comes back up a bit and holds steady, as the lake gives off the heat of the day. Because the nights are getting longer now, it might dip again early in the morning. It did last night, dropping to 20 at sunset and holding until about 5am before dropping a bit more

26C with a humidex of 32 and sunny. We have switched up another gear. It's a warm evening/night with downtown Montreal being 21C at 1AM (19C at YUL).

Low was 14C this morning. Fresh but confortable.

The warmspot was Pinawa, MB at 28.5C

Warmest low was Great Falls, MB at 20.0C. Doubt it holds, let's see tomorrow.

15C and sunny in Moncton at 9 AM, only getting up to 18C this afternoon.

Yesterday felt like a day in mid August, then a front went through last evening with thunderstorms, hence the cooler (and drier) weather today.

Heat will quickly return by Monday, with the high temperature on Tuesday expected to be 30C. Will this be the last 30C day of the year???

I thought I would include this graphic showing the geographic distribution of the 36 communities included in the freeze list, just to show that an attempt was made to make the list geographically representative.

Screen Shot 2024-09-14 at 10.14.59 AM

I think that maybe next year we should make the list an even 40 communities, including one more city from each region.

I would suggest
- Fort MacMurray AB
- Sault Ste Marie ON
- Rimouski QC
- Goose Bay NL

Really feeling fall-like out there today. Cloudy, some light fog, occasional showers, and 14 degrees at 11:30am. Temperatures drop a bit further as the day goes on.

It's been chilly all day, MOSTLY dry - which surprised me. Up until about the time Marty posted, there were constant little spits of rain. Maybe a dozen drops would actually hit you every half hour if you were standing still outside.

But the thing about today that is fucking me up is it's going so deliciously slowly! It's only 5 p.m., feels like it should be 3 a.m. The entire day, every time I happened to see a clock, it was HOURS earlier than it felt. Usually only Mondays feel this long. A rare treat to have this form of time warp on a Saturday.
