Does anyone know what the four-storey building under construction north of Victoria Ave. East (west of Aurora Blvd) will be? The steel superstructure appears to be complete. It is west of a brand-new building for a container rental business. The two don't seem to be related, and the only signs on the fencing for the steel structure in question is for the contractor. I'm thinking this is the new U-Haul storage facility? It's fair size structure, and the height between floors seems less than a typical office building.

There's a lot of money in helping people store useless crap worth less than one month's rental fee.

Regina city council tables aquatic centre budget, approves debt-limit request
Councillors were reminded the Lawson Aquatic Centre is too old for a reboot, and the city's debt limit needs upping to pay for committed projects.

Costco green lit by the planning department. Not sure if it needs to go to council committee, then full council.

They say not much is happening in Regina, but it’s quite the opposite. The city is booming and going wild.

REGINA SPECIALIZED BEDS LONG-TERM CARE HOME PROJECT BEGINS EARLY WORKS CONSTRUCTION
August 27, 2024
9:42 am
The Government of Saskatchewan is moving forward with the “Early Works Phase” for the Regina Specialized Beds Long-Term Care Home, with the grading and site servicing. The new 240-bed facility, located south of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Regina campus, will serve seniors and residents with complex long-term care needs.

“The early works phase is a critical step in laying the foundation for infrastructure that supports building a strong and healthy community,” SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister Terry Jenson said. “We are pleased to share the progress recorded so far and we look forward to the start of construction in coming months.”

Rail relocation will likely get announced in the next few years with the city covering 1/3 and the province / feds picking up the rest. Just to service the Viterra crushing plant alone will require a few km of rail along the proposed relocation route. Also the extra rail traffic strengthens the case for relocation. All the initial studies and much of the planning is done already and is likely approaching what could be called a shovel ready project.
Does anybody know why the strip of gravel road is not paved to highway 46? Seems so weird with all the people going out to the dump and city owned golf courses. Makes too much sense.

Just the other day I was thinking of biking over there to see if the work had started.

Some photos from the past week or so. https://imgur.com/a/y1d1iih

Tar down on most of Pinkie south of the tracks so that should get paved soon. They just need to build a median at Dewdney. Some people are going to be disappointed when it opens. Every time I go down the paved section north of the tracks its full of people jogging, walking, walking dogs, kids riding bikes. Closed roads are the best roads.

Sounds like several councilors want to cancel the library to pay for the pool, though they prefer to frame it as a postponement.
