So? What is important is where the stations are. Cardero is the best because it's the best alignment if you don't want to dig under a bunch of buildings to make a curve. The stations are both in the centre of their areas, and keep in mind that most people going to the West End are going to residences, and since the density is pretty even around there, the best location is in the centre. Going to English Bay Beach is longer and more expensive and has a reduced walkshed.

Actually it would allow for it to continue across False Creek/English Bay in the future. Not really a dead end. Extending the Expo Line to West Van is just a weird idea because there's barely any density there to justify it. It makes way more sense to have a second narrows alignment to serve the north shore.

Again, frequencies are so high, and will only get higher, that this isn't much of an issue. This is especially less of an issue once a north shore line would go in. Waterfront is the last station in the line, so it's not like all of downtown is getting reduced service.
