That's quite a shocking image. I know the plant was behind a masonry wall and was demolished, but it blended in so well, you wouldn't expect that void.

The area where the Cliff Heating Plant, Library and Archives and Judicial District used to be a complete neighbourhood. Although today's monumental buildings are spectacular in their own way, the surface parking lots certainly are not.

Not sure how I feel about this. How bad will it be walking east towards the monoliths while the sun is behind you?

I like it!! They don't seem to have a huge issue with the Bean in Chicago so I think we'll survive.

I didn't even think about the birds. With the emphasis the NCC has been putting in bird safe designs, this one is a bit of a head scratcher.

Glad they went with the chrome finish after all, instead of matte grey. Looks very cool! Hopefully it’ll attract attention and draw people towards the new public park/plaza - which I’d say 90+% of Ottawans have no idea is being constructed right now.

I really wish for excavations like that, they'd dump piles of spoil in places where kids of all ages can look for fossils.

Any idea when that park will be done. After they do the heating plant and the chrome towers are they gonna convert the parking lot?

LOL, they might even find delightful masses of asbestos, loose lead chunks, and liquid bunker fuel! What fun, children, come frolic in the government spoils!

Where would the asbestos, lead, or bunker fuel be coming from when excavating sterile local geology?

I think this thing looks epic. Like a portal to a disturbance in the time-space continuum . I hope it doesn't take birds to a different dimension beyond the stars. It will be interesting to have a pair of them.

Are people going to be able to touch it? If so, think of all the finger prints at the base!

I wonder if Windex makes a really, really large refill bottle?
