From what I can recall the webpage had an exterior rendering of what looked like an upscale restaurant/bar. It was identified as "Loqui" in Saskatoon with "coming soon" or something like that.

That narrow vacant lot on Ave C would seem to line up with my memory of the building rendering.

Fort Architecture, when in business, did bar, restaurant, coffee shop design as their bread and butter. Sounds like something cool is coming to Riversdale.

Humble House Bakery

I just want to give a shoutout to this new bakery in town, over in East College Park. Someone brought some donuts in for a potluck the other day and they were amazing. I have since gone there myself and was very impressed with the service and the baking. So good!! Give them a go!!

Is this one of the Dale McKay series of restaurants. The brand/logo looks like their style.

I've heard, but can't confirm, that the Calories owners are behind it.

Sounds promising if true, in a part of Downtown that needs a good option like this.

13 Pies is relocating to the Birks Building.

There is now a PetValu downtown, in the Macmillan Building, at the corner of 2nd and 21st. While I love seeing more retail downtown, am I the only one who thinks this makes no sense at all?

I went to 13 Pies on the second night of their opening in the new location. It has a different vibe but I really love the big windows looking out to the street.

I think a pet store downtown actually does make sense. I see people walking their dogs downtown all the time, and I suspect a lot of apartment/condo dwellers downtown own pets. Having a shop for pet supplies nearby is great for them, particularly for anyone without a vehicle.

I'm trying to be optimistic about it as it eats up a large longstanding vacancy, but it strikes me as odd too.

FWIW I went in there and they had a specific brand of dog food that I was having trouble finding anywhere else. It seems to be a cut above other PetValu's I've seen.

I hope it succeeds, but it does strike me as an odd fit.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that found this odd. My wife and I just noticed PetValu there last week and I said "What the heck is that doing there?"

Specialty retailer Lee Valley Tools relocates to Lawson Heights Mall

Saskatoon Star Phoenix
Author of the article: Don Rice
Published Jan 30, 2024

Businesses and non-profit organizations regularly open and move in Saskatoon. Today the StarPhoenix talks to Jason Tasse, president of Lee Valley Tools, which recently relocated to Lawson Heights Mall.

Lee Valley Tools originally opened in Canada in 1978 and expanded to Saskatoon in 2005. The store occupied the original location on 51st Street, the only one in Saskatchewan, before moving in December 2023. Lee Valley has 18 locations across Canada.

Great news for Lawson Heights Mall. Seems like a better location for Lee Valley than 51st St anyway. A true win-win in what could have been a situation that resulted in Lee Valley leaving the Saskatoon market.

Agreed. Seems like a fantastic opportunity for Lee Valley to leverage the "busy-ness" of the mall to (potentially) attract new customers. Lee Valley is such a great store. So glad to have them in Saskatoon.

There are so few active residential developments happening in the exchange/downtown. Sad how little is being done. Downtown really needs some more investment. Hopefully a high proportion of the HAF funds are for improving downtown

Italian Centre targets Saskatchewan and even dreams of B.C.

Taproot Edmonton
March 15, 2024
By Colin Gallant

As Teresa Spinelli eyes further expansion within Calgary by next fall for the growing assembly of Italian Centre Shop locations, she’s also looking beyond Alberta to new store possibilities in Saskatoon and even Victoria.

“We just signed a deal for our second store in Calgary,” Spinelli, president of the company, told Taproot. “Hopefully we’ll do a third store in Calgary, but I think Saskatoon will come before the third (Calgary) store because Calgary is such a tough market to find space in.”

We are independent owners of a new restaurant in the final stages of completing the construction of our new building in the Riversdale neighbourhood. We will look to use global inspiration to highlight the bounty of Saskatchewan’s farmers and producers. The space is a brand new build from the ground up, with a mid-century modern design and a focus on great food alongside craft cocktails and local beers.

The Hose & Hydrant will reopen as 3 Hall Public House, with an apparently more upscale focus.
