It appears the 2nd floor space above Drift Cafe (now Jr Cafe) will open as "Bar Stella":

9 Mile brewery closing on 20th, but will be retaining their 21st Street location. Too bad....Riversdale location had a cool vibe and was good for the area. Hope another pub/bisro type place takes over the 20th location.

Plans afoot at the former Sketchy Cactus location at 3rd and 20th. I see they are sticking with the "C" alliteration for the name. Is a Don Cherry themed establishment what this town is craving? Time will tell.

Very creative font choice for the logo. This has winning resto-sports pub concept written all over it /s

Don't think this was posted. Both Ayden and Sticks and Stones are closing.

Didn't the man himself have a Don Cherry's themed restaurant in Ontario back in the 90s?

I wouldn't be surprised if they come after this and shut it down.. or fully endorse it. What the hell do I know about restaurants..

Yes there were quite a few of them in Ontario a few decades back. I'm not sure when they started to fizzle out. There is a revolving ownership establishment north of downtown here that was an officially sanctioned Don Cherry's just a few years ago. The man himself's likeness was not enough to sustain it.

We had one of the Don Cherry's in my hometown downtown Windsor, Ontario. Pretty rough place during Windsor's bar and restaurant heyday pre-9/11.

Pizza and pasta are menu highlights at Liberty Kitchen in Lawson Heights

by Don Rice

Saskatoon StarPhoenix

Published Jul 18, 2023

Businesses and non-profit organizations regularly open and move in Saskatoon. Today the StarPhoenix talks to Kelly Burns, who recently opened Liberty Kitchen near Lawson Heights Mall in the former Famoso Pizza location.

Burns, who also owns 12 Browns restaurants, including the nearby Browns Social House, sees Liberty and Browns as complementing each other with vastly different menus.

I'm sure glad they showed four photos of the owner's face instead of the pizza and pasta menu highlights.

That could be a very cool space, depending what they do with it. Great to hear.

Also, the Freshii location that closed on corner of Broadway and 11th Street East is now a new cocktail lounge. Obviously called "Cocktail Bar"....lol. Pretty limited selection with a focus on classic cocktails. I always wish the best for new ventures like this. Fingers crossed they will find thier niche market.

I love classic cocktail bars. However, I am doubtful there is enough demand to keep one running in Saskatoon...

"Cocktail Bar", eh? That's on par with "Food & Beverage" as far as dumb, on the nose names go.

I do not love the name, but I stopped in on the weekend and thought it had promise (some opening weekend kinks with service to work out).

Great people watching through those big windows. Smaller, more intimate room - which I love and want more of in the city. Small places (like Leo's Broadway, Flint, Pop) just bring a big city vibe of little niche places that you can pop into on your Friday night outing. The antithesis of a massive Canadian Brewhouse.

It seems that link doesn't work now and the firm on google says "permanently closed. I do see a sign on the building that is being built on Ave C beside Foggy Den with that name. Could this be what you are referring to? What did that link have on it?
