[Burnaby] City of Lougheed | Phase 1 Completed

The parking lot in the SE corner by the old Bay and the new part has been completely cleared of trees and shrubs etc. Something going on there. Anyone know what they will be doing?

Also the mall has added a lot of new chairs, planters and many tables and chairs throughout the mall, they are very well used.

the east side.
They do have a fenced-off "yard" area where construction things are being stored in the west parking lot just near the old Safeway, perhaps that fenced section will get moved to this section and they can start the next phase since that's the location of it?

Isn't the Vancouver Golf Club private land?

The Lougheed Town Centre area is already pretty blessed with parks, Cameron, Keswick, Brunette River Conservation Area, even Burnaby Lake nearby. Probably cheaper and easier to just upgrade those.

I'd be very surprised if anything changed with Vancouver Golf Club, it is a fairly high level club (eg. has hosted LPGA in the past) and is privately held.

As for parks in the area around the golf club you have a nice new park to the North (Cottonwood), a nice old park to the East (Blue Mountain), but the areas to the West and especially the South, in the direction of Lougheed are a bit lacking.

There's nothing really to the south in the area bounded by the freeway, North Road, the golf club and Blue Mountain.

West of North Road is better, but not great, Cameron Park is the best bet, but is OK at best. Keswick isn't great at all, Stoney Creek and Brunette River are nice for walking, but overall there isn't much in the way of a really nice park, considering the population in the Lougheed area.

Lougheed is still much better off park wise than Brentwood and Edmonds. Everywhere could use improvements, but there's quite a few options around Lougheed compared to other Burnaby Town Centres.

Yes, it is frustrating. Revelopment of the plaza is they keystone to the neighbourhood revitalization. The topic came up at a recent Morguard (the owner of the plaza) earnings call, and they mentioned that there was some debate with council that was causing delay.

Most likely related to this Tri-City news story from Jan 2023 'Morguard ready to break ground at Burquitlam Plaza'

"But while some councillors praised Morguard for adding rental stock in the city, others pressed the company for more affordable living in the busy area.

Sometimes I think about running for council. I was a lawyer for a brief period and now I'm working for the BC Government. I think I have enough talking points to get people to vote for me. I'm also a first gen Canadian so I can get some votes from people from the old country. Just so I can donkey kick some of these councilors behind the scenes. Swear to god, Lower Mainland politicians and politician wannabes are the biggest Karens on the planet.

I was in the area over the weekend and man, is there a lot of construction taking place in Burquitlam! The amount of constant construction noise is really going to ruin summer for the local residents. It feels like the entire neighborhood is being built all at once.

I live here and every morning I hear construction noise when I wake up, but you really get used to it. They start early in the morning and by 4 pm they're pretty much done for the day. For the most part it's not an issue. I would rather they do it all at once than to piecemeal it over a thousand years. This is way more preferable.

It might be for a new presentation centre..

EDIT: ITC CONSTRUCTION BC LTD was the listed builder for the new presentation centre so the photos seem to confirm that this is where the presentation centre will go.
