Kinda tough to alter how development economics work unless we want to have our government subsidize a lot more.
The El Mirador was a unique little asset, yes. But I would argue that the majority of the public didn't think much of it other then being a small older apartment building just off Jasper Avenue. It did not have the 'presence' or 'notoriety' that other older buildings had such as the Tegler Building, etc. The impact of its loss was relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. And this is from someone who spent 10-years repositioning maaaany heritage buildings in this City.
