Maybe when it's attached to an area versus a specific building the word might not be the best choice. I think the confusion might be based on certain use of the word transform that explicitly require the subject to go through a process of being changed and how most people use the word.

The Listel Hotel sits at 1300 Robson Street in downtown Vancouver and will close its doors in November to be transformed into a 28-storey mixed-use tower.
Grammatically the subject is the hotel, which will close its doors and be transformed...?

RIP mural. Never ever noticed it was just a bunch of dots making up the mural... The mural layer started to peel off around 2020.

Quote:
“The wall was completely damaged,” said Chris Cavelti of Cavelti Enterprises, which owns the building. “We had to do some remediation on the wall, and there was no way to paint that thing again. So we painted it (back) the way it was originally.”

That wall will be covered up who knows when / when the Bay Parkade is redeveloped.

At least the section near Georgia seemed to be exposed in the Arc Shadow renderings.

The article notes that the ARC Shadow concept architects are no longer involved, so presumably if / when Holborn move forward (or sell the site to someone else), there will be a different design, and it seems probable that the wall where the mural was will be hidden.

Pics by me today.
At Rosedale Garden where the trees were removed, they've added wooden ties and topped up the soil
(the stumps would still be in there but they did grind down as much as they could).
The nice high planters are pretty much dog-proof so the plants tend to survive (though not raccoon-proof).

Looks like the inspection happened today.

Yeah, they look to be yew bushes.
Strange planting pattern. The spacing is too wide for a hedge or bunched, but could just be to avoid the stumps below.

Strange landscape concept around the trees, I wonder if they need to replace that ring around the trunks every few years as the trees grow?

Also the asphalt patching on the city side of the property line looks terrible, hopefully they can fix that up a bit some time soon.

The whole of Trounce Alley is supposed to be relaid - the design was completed alongside the design for Blood Alley Square. The Gastown Public Spaces Plan web page says the City will be "Renewing Trounce Alley to integrate with the new design for Blood Alley Square", but there's no timeline indicated.

Maybe the concrete surrounding the trees will prevent dogs from peeing on them?

Planning for tree growth doesn't seem to be the city's strong point judging by how many choked-looking street plantings there are.

Also, on Hamilton between Robson & Smithe on the Rosedale side, the tree wells were redone over a long period to add brick
(jagged depending on the size of the tree and some of them have polished gravel).
There are some various words imprinted in the bricks.
Not sure who would have paid for these (Yaletown BIA?). They extend in front of both the condo and the hotel.

Pic by me today.

It looks like the Yaletown standard with pebbles stuck on top of the soil portion. This is probably not finished yet, but I'm not sure. It is a nice touch though. I hope they can be persistent about this standard for all the tree wells in this neighbourhood.

This is nice to see. I just wish the City can hasten the project to fix up road paving around the neighbourhood, as well as clean/fix up the streets and vandalized walls.
