UrbanToronto contributor Benito has documented the saga/progress here with hundreds and hundreds of photos (dating back to the site prep days).

Here’s the view from his neighbouring balcony about 15 months ago (on my birthday… thanks Benito ;-).

On Monday I happened to capture a few of the bigger projects going up in Toronto's downtown. The first two images are taken on Tuesday however.

That's a fair assessment of this project. Although I personally prefer this since the podium is arguably better with retaining some older building stock, and with the impressive ground floor space inside the podium at the corner. I also like the big office towers at this corner (they always seemed to scream big city to me, despite being at best B grade po-mo), so this nod to post modern design is right up my alley. I find the upward triangle effect combined with the smokey curtain wall very successful in making this building look tall and imposing.

160 Front actually turned out really nice. High quality glass, nice lighting system, and adds to the skyline. I like it.

i like it too.. but the placement of the logo over that random opening up top makes it look like a cyclops that rides the short bus

I have mixed feelings on the impact of 160 Front st. W on the skyline from various vantage points.

It kind of crowds out the view of the Financial District from the CN tower, but it does that by covering up a lot of the 20-storey York Street Class B garbage that was built in the 1970s and 80s, so that's a plus.

I don't like how the straight line view of the CN tower through the TD Centre towers is lost.

Sometimes I think the lighting is gaudy and overbearing, but other times I think it's like those skyscrapers in Hong Kong at Christmastime which I can't help but like.

I hate the logo signage on the upper levels and the podium is awful, but the tower itself is nice.

It doesn't shine a candle on CIBC square though, IMO.

CIBC Square is my favourite office tower development to go up in Canada in the last 30 years. So yes I agree.

I definitely enjoy the new tower. I'm kind of done worrying about stuff covering the view of other things because it's impossible for a city to have a skyline that's both large and dense without there being many notable buildings that aren't visible from many important views. All I ask is that is if something is going to block views, I better like the new thing that's doing the blocking. So bland/tacky balcony-cluttered window-wall residential buildings blocking views of high quality office buildings... no.

Although... lets keep it within reason. That ultra-wide "wall" building proposed for the rail corridor by the UPE station is a bit much.

I've really enjoyed seeing 160 Front go up, and see it realized from its initial renderings. The height cut was unfortunate, but I don't think the design suffered too much thankfully, even if the tower looks a bit pudgy at some angles.
The lighting and cladding is really top notch, it's definitely tied with CIBC Square (or as I still like to call it, Bay Park Centre) as the best thing to come out of this boom.

Still, three solid 240M office towers around Union Station that were U/C right before or during the pandemic is nothing to sneeze at.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing the second phase of the Bay Park towers fill out Bay and link these two high density parts of downtown.

I took these today of The One. For the sake of legibility, I'm limiting this post. My full update is in the One thread.

I like it too. Ya the TD logos suck, hopefully one day they will come off but the tower itself is fun and eye catching. In a city with so many office towers there are very few that standout as unique designs. I wonder if we will see some of the older stock update their looks with lighting details to help them standout more at night. This thing looks like it glows in the pictures. I have yet to see it at night myself.

I guess if it hasn't been done already we can update the top 10 list now.

ooohh, that upper, long reach excavator is in a really precarious position. That operator has balls of steel having the tracks overhang that 50' or so pit.

Curtain-wall glass starting on the tower floors. Check out the SkyTower’s curtain-wall clad podium in the centre of the pic versus the window-wall cheap-out of the Phase 1 podium on the far right.

How to stuff one of the largest commercial/bank buildings under construction in North America, between a heritage building and a rail corridor… cantilevering helps.
