Yes, however I was told there would be an update on construction, guess we’ll wait and see.

I agree, as of October 2021 in the Growth Monitoring Report presented to city council the population of Saskatoon was estimated at 282,900. At this point I would suspect we are at 300,000 in the city, not including the greater Saskatoon area.

Yes, I would guess that Saskatoon's population (i.e., within city boundaries) would be around 300,000 now. As I stated in an earlier post, according to SREDA's Q3 2023 Economic Dashboard, the 2023 POPULATION ESTIMATE for the SASKATOON CMA is 364,167.

By my calculations:
At a 3 per cent annual growth rate, Greater Saskatoon would reach 500,000 population by 2035. Only 11 years away.

I’ve been told this is a Baydo project, so I’m not shocked by this incident. On the good news front, it sounds like neither of the individuals injured have life-threatening injuries.

Given how much and how long this new arena is taking, I hope the architectural design turns out to be at least as inspiring as say Edmonton's $483 million Rogers Place and unlike the dreadful shroud-like first renderings by Dialog of Calgary's Saddledome replacement!

So pessimistic! I don't think it's been taking too long... given the complexity and number of stakeholders involved, it seems to be moving ahead at a faster than expected clip.

The image is still showing up. It was Google Earth that I see the image.

It can change between 3D imagery and (older) "flat" aerial imagery depending on connection speed and your system's processing capacity at any moment.

If you want to reliably view the 3D imagery, you can use the Google Earth app on your mobile device.

I understood that the library would be undertaking a pre-construction exercise to find cost efficiencies, but was unaware the same firm would be awarded the construction contract. Wouldn't this negate the possibility of another firm coming in with a lower bid after the redesign? Or is it necessary to have that continuity through pre-construction and construction to manage budget? Help a noob like me understand?

Sounds like in addition to the $500k ish that they received for precon services(estimating, constructability, etc), they are getting another $16m or so to act as the GC, procuring and managing sub trades and possibly self performing some of the work. I can’t tell if the $16m indicates Alot of self performing or not.

I would expect all/most sub trades will be bid out to the CM’s “recommended” Subtrades.
