I'd prefer to see a real sportsbar. A #1 rated best dam sportsbar in Canada. Something that when you come over the CN rail bridge on MtRd headed west, BAM! A well illuminated building with bright lighted signs and much activity going on.

I would like to see this too, but I dont think the location makes sense for a sports bar. Any large scale sports bar like that needs to be near Avenir Centre to take advantage of pre/show pre/game crowds. Right now there's a giant hole for that in the city, I haven't even seen a single restaurant try to capitalize with pre event deals or anything. Carabbas was quite full before the home opener with hockey fans though.

I heard a rumor awhile back about Monk10 rebranding into a sports bar which would make a lot of sense, its a big location if they could configure their screens for viewing purposes. But its been months since I heard that so I'm doubting it at this point. Its too bad, the restaurant has kind of gone down hill since its opened and it would be a better niche than trying to compete with the other upscale pubs like Tide & Boar and SJG.

Perhaps with the golf bar "The Bunker" we could see a separate section that would function as a sports bar. I think that would be perfect.

The new Baton Rouge is supposed to have a large sports bar component (fine dining upstairs, sports bar downstairs).

Speaking of the (presumed) Baton Rouge, it appears that construction has commenced. There are excavators on site, and some residual concrete from the old building has been torn up.

The tower crane at 1299 Main (the "tomato" building) is going up. There are crane pieces lying on the ground, and a mobile crane is on site.

Could you tell if they're excavating a basement, or will it be on a slab? Thx.

All NB is apparently reporting that the Baci Italia building has been purchased by a NS developer. This may put pay to the rumour of it being converted into a mosque.

Moncton's $57M police station under construction too small by 2044, report says
Consultant report suggests new building needs expansion by 2044 even if region sticks with RCMP

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/police-building-moncton-construction-space-1.6988815

Quote:
"While the facility has been designed to accommodate service growth (up to 394 people by year 2044), it is our opinion that the built infrastructure will not support such growth," the latest report states.
Quote:
"You know, 20 years out, we really don't know," Taylor said. "But we have to be prudent and go with the projections. But it does give the opportunity for the plan to be modified."

Taylor said it allows time to consider options such as expansion of the new building, or satellite police offices in Dieppe or Riverview.
Personally I am not surprised that in 20 years time, given the fact that Moncton is a growing city, that an expansion to the building may be necessary. This news report is a bit of a nothingburger.

New tenant for the former Actus Law building on Main Street:

Image from Greg Turners FB page.

Harbor is a global legal and corporate consultancy firm. It is a sign of the growth of the city that they have chosen to set up a branch here.

Apparently interior renovations have started on the former bus station next to the Baton Rouge construction site. Could this be for the rumoured Bunker golf simulator and sports lounge???

The west end of the downtown core continues to develop a sports and entertainment focus. It is good for the city to have a zone like this. It will certainly make the Avenir Centre district quite lively.

New tenants have repainted the grey to a warmer lite colored white egg shell beige kinda color. Looks nicer.

Personally, I think the developer should just roll with this and put an illuminated tomato sign on the crest of the building (rather than the incongruous "JC" that they currently have planned).

It would at least show a sense of humour regarding this saga........

Fun fact:

The two lots on the southwest corner of Queen & Steadman both sold August 1st of this year.

I heard that one gentleman now owns this city block. (Queen/Main, Lewis/Steadman, though this is not currently reflected on the snb website.

Heard a rumble that a substantial building is planned.
