I wonder if TimeOut, had they been given the opportunity, would have preferred The Post, downtown and next to the new Art Gallery as opposed to Oakridge...

Maybe. Looking at the building, they're clearly not opening any time soon. Duct work seems to be installed at the moment.

Bezos needs to buy the Post building and move his agenda forward.

having been to the Time Out Market in Lisbon and living near the Post, I wish they had taken the Post space over the Oakridge space.

Sure it would be nice for the downtown core but it makes zero sense from Time Out's perspective. They can turn Oakridge Park into a destination location versus whatever QuadReal could offer them at The Post. QuadReal just needs/wants a glorified food court and their choice of operator speaks volumes.

This is 100% the truth. A glorified food court, hands off largely and I would assume no individual tenants to manage as I am sure opening **insert mall franchise here** would not attract the type of worker that is in that area. (although reinventing the suburban JoRich concepts probably wouldn't have been a success either). I am very interested to see how fogo to chao will turn out, its busy in Bellevue but typically with a more suburban/family vibe. With that said, once this place gets converted into Canadian Dollars, it will be PRICEY with a menu that is largely geared towards all you can eat. - (bellevue menu) https://fogodechao.com/menu-detail/?location=416&type=menu-lunch&id=7

Westbank seems to be a bit more interested in housing unique concepts with their development of the Kitchen Table Group along with backing time out market.

Theoretically this could be another spot for Eataly, but I would assume Loblaws would not want to have competition in house for their glorified and overpriced superstore.

Have you been to one?

I've only been to the Chicago location, a few times, but the service is great and the food is good.

Literally all you can eat steak if you want. It will be a lot more here I'm sure.

No, I haven't, but US$45.50 for lunch (even all you can eat) is going to have a limited customer base.

It's personally outside my budget, but the Oceans 999 at the Pan Pacific has had a $65 AYCE Sunday Brunch for a while. https://www.panpacific.com/content/dam/p...ng/oceans-999/PPV_SUNDAY_BRUNCH_MENU.pdf

You might not believe it, but there's a customer base for this 🞵🞵🞵🞵!

I think there are a lot of customers who just don't want to go downtown, Oakridge would be much more attractive for many, treking downtown, trying to find cheap parking, etc. not worth the hassle, and a lack of cool places in the outer city is attractive to many. I think people would be more inclined to venture to Oakridge than to go downtown more often.

Special occasions, sure, but even high rolling corporate types are not dropping $60 on your typical workday lunch. Maybe happy hour.

Just checked out Time Out at Eaton Centre in Montreal's downtown core. This one is definitely not just a glorified food court, but so much better and nicer! Food pricing is slightly higher than foodcourt's but then the quality of the food justifies that, and lower than at restaurants offering similar types of food. It is also opened late till around 9-10pm most evenings, and a great place to hang out with colleagues or friends after work, etc. Not sure about Quadreal's choice at The Post, but they need to keep the standard high like Time Out.

Agreed with others that Time Out should be at the Post rather than Oakridge Centre, although it would be great for this new Town Centre anchor building to have something that actually attracts people to go there.

We need better malls downtown.

Both Loblaws and Eataly Canada are owned by the Westons.

This I know but one could assume that loblaws would not want to cannibalize their own business in that location.

Agreed.
the Pan Pacific one seems more like a special occassion outing, not average weekday.

Talking to someone on the inside, Amazon's workforce here is something like +90% young men and a significant amount here on visas. Would they really be turning their nose up at standard food court offerings?
