Not sure why you feel the need to mock Rocket's post. Businesses move to cities that have excellent flight hubs. Edmonton simply doesn't compete with Calgary in this regard.

Secondly, businesses move to cities that attract quality employees. Calgary's location to the mountains, top quality cultural and sporting venues make it a prime location for relocations. It's downtown is essentially brand new and also 100 times safer than downtown Edmonton.

Keep in mind earlier this year ,an unnamed business decided to pull out of relocating to Edmonton once they physically saw the sad state of downtown. I work for one of Downtown's largest employers, and our internal security team is constantly having to put out safety alerts. Lots of employees are refusing to come downtown and have opted to work at an under-utilized office location we have in the south end.

Well, if we're talking about hard-to-relocate jobs, then Edmonton is set for generations: it's called the soul-crushing public sector.

Rogers > Saddledome
Commonwealth > McMahon
RAM > Glenbow
Winspear > Jack Singer
Calgary Main Library > Edmonton Main Library
Calgary Zoo > Edmonton Zoo
Jubilee = Jubilee

Ultimately it's a tie between cultural/sporting venues between both cities along with the quality of public education and healthcare.

Safety, I don't think anyone is questioning we have issues downtown but to say Calgary is 100 better is a stretch. We have an opioid/drug epidemic hitting all of our cities that needs to be deal with.

Umm, you're saying the Edmonton library is comparable to the Calgary library which has won International architecture awards? Also, comparing the Edmonton Zoo to Calgary Zoo? Please tell me you aren't serious?

In terms of health care, most would argue Calgary easily outranks Edmonton. The Alberta Children's hospital is ranked 6th this year in Newsweeks "World's Best Specialized Hospitals of 2023". Not to mention a brand new state of the art cancer centre.
https://www.newsweek.com/rankings/worlds-best-specialized-hospitals-2023/pediatrics

Also, new article in the Edmonton Sun today: "It is so bad Downtown they're turning cafés into transit police stations". Granted, Gunter is a 🞵🞵🞵🞵. But having said that, this type of national and potentially international press doesn't help promote Edmonton as a place to "live, work, and play".

Maybe take the rose coloured glasses off?

I believe the use of the greater than symbol ">" notes that the Calgary Library and Zoo win those categories.

My apologies, yes you are correct. I wasn't paying attention. Thanks for the clarification!

How many more floors for Falcon?

The redo at the leg is massive. I didn't know it was going to be this extensive.

^tis indeed. I hope that they can get er done for a 2024 opening, but it might be an extra year given that photo.

There was an online engagement conducted earlier this year and the 'River' concept was the preferred of three options.

Here's a walkthrough of what the Rice Howard Place renos will look like.

Anyone know what's going to happen with the lower level if the food hall is moving up to the main floor?

Its been a couple weeks since I've been in the office, but I noticed they had opened up a portion of the upper floor of Holt in Manulife place. Looks like they were sectioning off a corner. Anyone know if someone has leased some of it?
