We need to see regular service testing before the transfer as well. The consortium needs to prove that the line is ready for service. Hopefully better than the full service testing that we saw with the Confed Line in August 2019.

I think you have a typo. Summer 2022 was the original delivery date. was supposed to open in time for the 2022-2023 school year.

You actually mean Summer 2024, right?

That's where it's headed. This simple project will end up 100% over schedule. Meanwhile, Stage 2 East is so far maybe 4% over, and Stage 2 West 25%, and those are far more complicated.

Bowesville and Leitrim P&Rs and bus loops still have a chance to be completed before construction season is over, but there are other factors at play impacting the timeline. 2023 opening is just not happening. 2024 spring is looking most likely at this point.

Just in time for the end of classes! An entire cohort of Carleton grads will never have had the chance to take the train.

Yup. It's sad it has taken this long to build a budget, minimalist line.

I would've liked for the extension to Bowesville and Limebank, and perhaps Leitrim as well, to be left for stage 3 or 4, and the current project's scope limited to double-tracking/electrifying the existing line and adding infill stations. Doing so would've precluded the need for future shutdowns and the south extensions could occur with limited impact to riders. If I had to bet, I would put money on the Bayview capacity dilemma being the main reason why double-tracking was not considered.

Yep that’s me. In my third year at Carleton and never taken the train to classes. Was hoping for it to open but looks like it will only happen for my 4th year.

There was a Flirt train at Limebank Station this afternoon.

The completed MUP currently runs along the south side of Earl Armstrong between the rail overpass and Limebank Road. It doesn't look like it will continue westward towards Riverside South as part of this project. I expect the MUP will connect to a trail along the east side of Line 2 going north towards South Keys. It will be one of the last things to be completed. All rail right of way work needs to be completed beforehand. There is also a completed MUP on the north side of Line 4 crossing the Airport Parkway. I am not sure how this will connect into South Keys.

Powerful comparison. Goes to show how much can change in just over 20 years. Back in 2001 nobody would've imagined what Bayview Station would've looked like today. Imagine what 2045 will look like.

Maybe we will have an even bigger Bayview Station with more vertical circulation and an extension to Gatineau. Hopefully we will have NAME HERE at Bayview Station, the arena and more by that time.

I really doubt we'll ever see the Gatineau extension. Once you give a new path to the Spandex Club, you can't get it back.

Spandex Club?

You better believe I'm stealing that.

Also there should literally be a sign on the bridge to publicly state that it's a temporary situation.

Agreed. Besides, with government work policy, who would actually use the train with the federal buildings mostly empty, or only used a couple of days a week?

Probably less than 10% of the bridge users wear spandex.

I also wouldn't worry too much, it will take a couple of drunk jumpers and a lawsuit before the city decides to close it and require licensed tour guides and life vests to use it.

I really don't get why it's apparently so hard for some people to recognize the fact that the city can just cantilever a boardwalk off the side of the bridge, uncover the rails, and we get both a train and MUP.

Crazy right?

But no, I guess "CYCLISTS BAD".

Please, reflect on how silly you all sound.

Although building a cantilever boardwalk would be relatively simple, could even reuse much of the materials, I think most of the skepticism is with the City itself. I don't think they are willing to invest in such an addition, along with the structural work needed on the bridge or a station in Gatineau.

I certainly don't blame the cyclists. I'm glad it's being used for something, except in the winter, because City.

Cyclists will be out in full force, because a conversion to rail will ultimately close the route for years even if the end result produces perhaps a better cycling route. We see how this works with Line 2.
