I'm amazed we haven't had a wildfire flare up because of them. Granted, it's not exactly been "camp fire weather" lately, but any fire, even roasting a pack of hotdogs could start one up. That's what started that Oak Hill fire in 2011 that burned a couple of homes. I've seen them with a fire near our neighborhood, and I didn't hesitate to call the fire department right after we drove past.

Absolutely. I call 911 anytime someone shacks up near Walnut Creek hopped up on heroin or who knows what. It's become super scary at times with some of the crap you'll see + cigarette butts thrown all over dried up bamboo / brush.

I know it's a process, be really need new leadership locally and statewide. This crap won't fly here.

Maybe one of them could also have a 1,000' observation tower or Ferris Wheel.

You can't fix people that don't want to be fixed.

This is also what happens when there is absolutely NO DETERRENT to crime or being a public nuisance.

Let's get the people who actually want help, the help they need to return to being a self sufficient member of society. Anyone else who refuses, gets rounded up and taken to a real campground where they can be babysat and continue their self-inflicted spiral down, and their trash and bs can be controlled.

Public spaces belong to the taxpaying PUBLIC, not these zombies! So tired of this s**t and the useless idiots in public office who enable it!!!

anyone know where this is on Howard Lane? The Statesman incorrectly states that this is in Pflugerville. When Pflugerville city limits dont go to Howard. That would put this in the Austin area.https://www.statesman.com/restricted...70789703007%2F

Can Bobbywest pleeeaaase update the diagram with lines that show progress? It would be greatly appreciated since at this point I’m way too lazy to count floors. Also under advanced search the diagrams can be changed to feet for us Americans that don’t know the metric system.

The metric system is so much better.

Ugh. We came upon a fatal pedestrian accident this evening on North Mopac just south of US 183. It had just happened. The ems and cops weren't even there yet. There was a van sitting in the middle lane with their flashers on, so cars started going around it. That's when we saw the man lying in the street. He had been pronounced dead on the scene. He had black clothes, and he didn't have any shoes on. It was dark through there, and the traffic was pretty heavy.

It's insane that people try to cross a high way, even if it's only the access road.

It's insane we have so few safe crossings of our urban freeways. The majority of pedestrian fatalities occur along TxDOT facilities. The 'improvements' to I35 are not going to help any.

They definitely will if the city builds the caps and stitches.

When I was with the Pflugerville Fire Dept, I saw my fair share of fatalities and its something to this day is hard to get out of my head, so I can imagine what it was like for you to see this. Its sickening especially when its avoidable. I remember running across lanes of traffic on I35 to get to a victim of a rollover, and I underestimated how long it took to cross those three lanes on foot. I think many of those pedestrians do the same thing, thinking they can make it, Its hard to judge the speed of oncoming cars and the distance to cross especially at night. I remember one particular pedestrian fatality on I35 where if the victim just walked about 1/4 mile, he could have safely walked over the highway on a nearby overpass. Just another unanswerable question of what were they thinking. Cars and people don't mix very well.

Parallel frontage roads shouldn't even be a thing. All they do is double the highway's width and separate the two sides of a neighborhood more than necessary. Utterly useless wastes of land and horrific urban planning.

Why TxDOT is obsessed with them is beyond me. Other states don't use them. They actually have real exits where you "exit the highway" right before the cross street, not like Texas where the street's exit is 2 miles before the road and you continue barreling down an unnecessary parallel road at highway speeds.

Completely unnecessary. Waste of land and resources. And then there's the human-scale & pedestrian safety aspects...

They're essentially using the NYC subway paradigm -- a local line (frontage road) and an express line (highway). Obviously it's still a highway, so disruptive in all those retrograde ways that highways are . . . but there's still some logic to it. If your sole method of transportation is a car, then moving them in this fashion makes sense.
