Aside from the fact the main line rail runs west of it and right beside hwy 75. So from what I can gather.

Two railway overpasses as an underpasses would be under water more then above . I'd be interested how these would be designed being so close to 75 and in one case the Morris River.

One flyover for one minor highway. ( may need access if as this is a minor trucking route )

One river bridge.( morris River )

Some form of what we have at Bishop flyover for through traffic's on the south end of morris and the north.

Don't confuse the ring dike for a road right of way. I suppose the new highway could go in that land.

They were also extending the dike this year on the south side. Not sure exactly what that looks like.

Yea that land that loops around town is the town dike. I could see residents being pretty upset if the limited diked-in lands get used for the highway. I supposed this eventual bypass could be raised up to be the new dike or more likely will be to run it beyond the dike

The dike could either be reconstructed as the NB lanes and the SB run where the grid road is. Or just put the whole thing west of the grid road.

I'm getting a 7km length for the bypass in Google Maps.

Does anyone wanna draw it out for our pleasure? Include interchanges too.

haha I've got something in google maps. No interchanges. I also have same for TransCanada in whiteshell (with crappy interchanges).

But apparently am blocked from uploading images on this computer. Will try to do so on mobile.

This PC, Ie: not mine, is giving grief. Uploaded via mobile. My grand Morris Bypass design. I think I still like the east side better, but the west side works.

Interchanges at: North end, PTH 23, south end.

I will say when checking the provincial property map, there is a right of way or something going westward at the south end where I show it splitting off. It at least looks like a right of way. So must have been some plans drawn up at some point.

PTH 1 twinning in Whiteshell.

Split off at Freedom road and follow south side of utility corridor around Barren Lake. Connect back into existing alignment west side of PR 301 overpass. New lanes to the north.

Leave old #1 as is. All of it. Speed limit, access points, etc. Could add an access point near where old #1 parallels PR 301 near Toniata/Faloma. Or even combine the east interchange with a PR 301 interchange.

You could decommission old #1 from Falcon interchange heading east and just use PR 301.

Interchanges:
West end Freedom Road/Old #1 combined interchange.
East end connection to existing alignment.
PR 301 overpass.
West Hawk Interchange.

The yellow lines near Freedom Road are ramps. You'd need 1 bridge for Freedom Road and another bridge to get the old #1 WB lane to connect with existing #1 WB lane. Heading EB, there'd be an exit after the freedom road overpass, where traffic would change to either head from EB #1 to EB old #1 and/or traffic from NB Freedom to EB new #1.

Would only need one full interchange for this prospective routing; a simple diamond at MB-23 would be sufficient. At the north end of Morris; would only require a SB exit and NB entrance; south end of Morris, SB entrance and NB exit only. For flood mitigation, there's always the option of a viaduct in flood prone areas. Something like I-5 just west of Sacramento.

Those drawings make good sense.

I guess the Morris bypass could be done on the cheap with only the Morris River bridge being totally non-negotiable... you could just have intersection access to the local route, but I don't think that would necessarily be ideal.

To do it properly you would need:

-two interchanges (one at either end of town)
-bridge over the Morris River and the railway tracks (perhaps it could be combined into one larger structure vs. two smaller ones?)
-interchange at PTH 23 (a diamond interchange that would somehow end up costing $180 million)
-another railway overpass at the south end of town

That's a lot. Going around the east side is not ideal since it would likely involve two Red River crossings which I assume will be costlier than two railway grade separations, plus two interchanges at either end as well as an interchange with PTH 23.

The TCH map through Whiteshell is bang-on.

For Morris. Would need a flyover at both north and south ends, no? At north end, you'd need something for NB bypass to cross the SB lane. Vice versa at the south end.

Not necessarily. You can always do it the traditional way, i.e. an intersection so people can turn off the main highway 75 and go into town. Just look at Saint-Jean-Baptiste down the road for a scaled down example of that.

Since the entrances to Morris at both ends would be low volume, you could have the lane go under 75 with something simple like a culvert underpass (think that's the term). Newfoundland uses these culvert underpasses for some low volume interchanges on the divided section of TCH-1 rather than building a full overpass.

Should budget will be an issue, MB-23 will be the entry/exit point for Morris; with the access to the south end of Morris as an NB exit only; and the north end of Morris as NB entry only.

Trying to keep from having those pesky intersections on the new highway.

I’m still salty that the Saint Norbert Bypass will have a traffic light.
