Anyone know anything more about the fate of these ill-fated political footballs, the Midtown Pitchfork, Farmers' Market, and Meridian Knox condos? I know it's summer and council has been busy as beavers gnawing away at that ridonculous proposed tax hike thing. But still.

Last news I heard was from Mar/2023 from midtown which said:

“We have Pitchfork Market which is kind of a boutique local grocery store here in the city. They’re taking about 18,000 square feet. They should be starting construction here in the next couple of weeks with a late summer, early fall 2023 opening date. We’ve got the store within a store with Zellers coming inside the Hudson Bay store at about 9,000 square feet. So we’re excited to see how they put that concept together for us.

City council approved the rezoning for the knox tower, so now it's all in Meridian's hands. I'd guess they are doing detailed design/costing and would be aiming to start work in the spring (hopefully).

Midtown Pitchfork - they are doing a bunch of work on it now, so it appears they are working towards opening. They have typical grocery store automatic sliding doors in place, so it appears it's just waiting for the developer to get the work done, so hopefully that opens this year.

Farmers Market - there are construction fences up and it appears vendor stalls are being built, so presumably it will open some time soon.

Structural steel is going up in Evergreen for the new independent, shoppers seems very close to opening.

Oh so a restaurant has been stopping the development of the surface lots Remai / North Prairie own in a monopolistic fashion along the river. Damn city rules!

Seems like Meridian talked to them about this, because the other two move like a sloth when it comes to anything… watching their useful land appreciate without any intention on developing.

Some guy on Reddit posted the library is 50M over expected, actually lower than what I thought it might be. But still probably higher than what they're willing to spend.

I don't understand the pushback by residents. i mean, would they rather see a vacant lot behind a chain link fence? This looks about the right scale and the design is actually not that bad... it could be worse.. it could have been another baydo ug-o.

I agree with you, especially about the brownfield behind the chainlink! This building might not be award winning architecture, but it looks respectable to me. I'm going to be happy to continue to see some more density in the Broadway area - some offices will be good for the daytime/lunch crowd and hopefully help the area maintain its vibrancy!

It will be a shame to lose the community garden, but I think the benefits will outweigh those downsides.

I think some local residents are upset about the loss of the community garden. It's been around for a long time, and I met someone a couple years back who had been tending a plot there for around a decade. That's the problem when vacant lots are 'temporarily' turned into dog parks, community gardens, or other public spaces: people get attached and are frustrated when they lose a treasured neighborhood amenity.

I hope Highpoint proceeds on this block as well. I have to think the two new developments plus the existing condos would make this one of the most dense blocks in the city, downtown included. Broadway and 12 could really use that BRT stop!

So was this land owned by this company or did they buy it, maybe residents should have put their money together to buy it for garden or were they just squatters hoping no one would notice for the last 10 years. lol

That land has been owned by Remai Ventures for many years, and had been allowing the community garden to use it as a courtesy until it was developed. I presume that the developer of this office building, Modus, has an agreement with Remai to buy the land.

Prairieland has announced that its proposed soccer stadium at Marquis Downs will no longer be moving ahead. Can't say I'm overly surprised; of all the "big ticket" proposals in recent years, this one always seemed like the most half-baked.

Disappointing from a construction standpoint, but hopefully a good opportunity for another potential ownership group to establish itself and come up with a proposal that doesn't involve Prairieland or a new stadium. Saskatoon doesn't need a new stadium when upgrading Griffiths or SMP seem like reasonable options.

What's also disappointing is that Marquis Downs was shuttered for absolutely nothing.
