Calling Brent Suer... His company, Duchuck Holdings, bought the old Police station, the Francis Morrison Library & the two Princeton Towers, so this looks to be right up his alley.

Whoever buys it and whatever it becomes, it would be nice to see them retain that entrance stair in the main lobby.

Sounds like a good portion of the proposed office building off of broadway has been “pre-leased.” Hopefully this can get going quickly to avoid this tenant from needing to expand elsewhere.

Wow....I know there is a real lack of rental properties in Saskatoon, but I am somewhat disappointed to see this is potentially moving away from condos. The "rent" will likely not be in the affordable range, which seems to be what is missing in Saskatoon.

Hope they re-think this.

Do you think the condos would be any more affordable?

What would a luxury apartment in Saskatoon rent for anyways? $2,500? $3k? Either way, luxury apartment rent will always be more approachable than a luxury condo downpayment.

There is beginning to be a lack of condos available in central locations in Saskatoon. My wife and I, as well as several friends were quite interested in the Highpointe option as we are at the age of downsizing, but want to remain close to broadway, river and downtown.
To do that....there is next to nothing on the market. I am sure we are not alone.

My pointe was that I believe Saskatoon needs AFFORDABLE rental options, but that perhpas Highpointes project would be better suited to try and meet the needs of a market like myself and friends. I know that sounds selfish, but sure feels like our options for condo purchase are very limited right now in Saskatoon. We would be looking in the $400,000 to $600,000 range. Our friends have a bit more generous budget to work with.

I believe Meridian's project by Knox Church is also planned to be a rental....

Does anyone know what happened with the city selling Parcel "D" at River Landing? You have to go back to 2017-2018 to see any official city reports relating to this property. Imagine the demand this location would get for some river-facing apartments with decent amenities. The city desperately needs to put thousands more living in and around the core.

Anyone with some insight into what has/hasn't happened would be much appreciated. I have a hard time believing there haven't been large investor(s) expressing interest.

I have been wondering about this one too. Seems selling it would help with the budget shortfall. Hopefully someone in the know can respond!

Yes. I was in Saskatoon this weekend and struck by the fact that River Landing seems to be quite stalled. Phase 1 was quite a success (and neat to see some restaurants on the plaza), but Phase 2 has been a bit of a dud.

What are referring to as Phase 2? If you're talking about the parcel west of the Sid Buckwold Bridge, then I would fully agree. I don't know if there are any concrete plans for that yet.

Here's something cool that caught my eye this morning. It's a proposal put forward by a few local developers to allow restaurants and lounges in "multiple-unit dwellings" downtown along Spadina:

This could be a good way to encourage more people to make the most of such a beautiful part of the city. The timing of it also coincides with the remodelling of the park along there. Remai owns the site south of St John's Cathedral and I think North Prairie has an interest of share in the Ukrainian museum parking lot.

It's mind-blowing that this isn't already allowed in that area... but I would love if the parking minimums were eliminated from that proposal. There's already plenty of parking in the vicinity and lots of residents who are within walking and biking distance.

Tender closing for the Library was extended to August 23rd. Shovels in the ground will depend on the price and if sufficient funds are available to award the construction contract.

If this ends up anything like Harry Bailey, I don't think we are getting a new library anytime soon...

I know one big contractor who put a bid in for the library that's very over the proposed budget. We'll see what others bids come in at but looks like we're in for either:

No library

A complete redesign of the whole project

A massive deficit

I'm not sure which one I would prefer.
