They didn’t really think that link shuttle idea out well. The cars themselves don’t really accommodate passengers with luggage or strollers well at all. And it doesn’t even reach into D concourse. The concept is good. It just should have been refined a bit more. And you are right: it does take up a whole bunch of floor space! Although I don’t know if it would work on the mezzanine level or not (I haven’t been up there for years!).

Only gate side does this apply. There isn't a single Starbucks anymore on the public pre-security side of the airport, as well as only a single Tim Hortons at the food court on the third floor.

Pre security amenities are not plentiful for sure. There is an awful lot of empty unused space pre security that would be better utilized as post security space for amenities.

US carriers still have a decent presence at YYC with 115 flights per week ~ 16-17 per day

UA - 54 weekly

DL - 28 weekly

AA - 21 weekly

AS - 12 weekly

Deville has replaced the pre security Starbucks, huge improvement imo, would love to see one air side.

Not atypical, have done that before. There is no separation between domestic and international right now.

My fam arrived from YEG in A and had to go to far D two weeks ago for domestic to domestic and that also seemed odd from a logistics and practicality standpoint.

Yes it is the luck of the draw. I am mostly flying Air Canada these days but have done a couple of WestJet flights this year. When it is WestJet it is usually Victoria to/from Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa through Calgary. It is rare that I would be in the same concourse. Common to have one flight in A and the connecting flight in D.

YYC was just shy of reaching 2 million in the month of July. Non-US international continues to see the biggest increase compared to 2019.

YYC July 2023 Pax stats:
Domestic: 1,355,286 +15.4% [2019: 1,284,446]
Trasnborder: 382,788 +48.1% [2019: 331,920]
International: 198,014 +66.7% [2019: 162,625]

July total: 1,936,088 +24.8% [2019: 1,778,991]
2023 YTD: 10,427,434 +37.10%

On track to hit 17.5 million, perhaps even come close to surpassing the 2019 total of 17.9?

In a recent update, UA re-added IAD for S24. It previously was not loaded, presently showing 1x daily from May 23. Well there is still plenty of time for it to be re-dropped, curious if perhaps it did better than was expected?

That's great! I see that on (Google Flights Search) WestJet plans to operate the Calgary YYC - Washington IAD in S24 again as well,with few times weekly service from May 31.

Maybe United Airlines wants to get a head start on the competition for YYC - IAD route,next summer✅!

AC pulling out of the YYC to LAX, CUN, HNL, FRA, YOW and YHZ markets this winter. It will be interesting to see of they ever return or if this is the beginning of the end for YYC as anything more than a spoke for AC's three hubs.

Sounds like a pretty nasty AC schedule change is coming this week. An internal memo is going around facebook saying AC is going to temporarily suspend a bunch of routes including CUN / LAX / YHZ / YOW / FRA / HNL.

FRA is the most surprising of the cuts. As it leaves no AC presence from anywhere in Western Canada for the winter (unless in the same update that route mysteriously ends up in YVR.)

Also goes on to say AC will "codeshare on a Lufthansa affiliate to Frankfurt from Oct. 30" so I guess Eurowings Discover might be going year-round.

Or, more likely, FRA moves to YVR year-round and we get seasonal to FRA on Eurowings. Soon, we'll have - tada, YYZ, YVR and YUL!

FRA on AC is a business route, I can't see a leisure airline making YYC-FRA work in winter?

I think this was just a matter of time. You either compete big or get out of the market. WS is building up the mega hub. So why compete with the likes of PD, Lynx, etc... on all these routes. I think the writing was on the wall with the reduction this summer.

If there's no FRA this winter would WS bump up Euro capacity? It's not like FRA was a badly performing route...a lot of people would be affected I'd assume.

I could see (possibly) Calgary YYC - Paris CDG on WestJet go from 3x weekly to 4/5 x weekly. Will see?

But other than that, with Air Canada suspending YYC - Frankfurt FRA

YYC Winter 2023 Europe flights :
Air Canada London Heathrow LHR,7x weekly
WestJet London Heatherow LHR , 7x weekly
WestJet Paris CDG, 3x weekly
KLM Amsterdam, 7x weekly

Eurowings Frankfurt FRA, 3x weekly from October 30?

A 3x weekly Calgary YYC -Frankfurt FRA on Eurowings during the winter could work out, alright.

Yep , good points!

With WestJet continuing to build up its mega hub at Calgary YYC. Air Canada is having trouble competing with WestJet & ULCC Lynx, Porter & Flair at YYC✅!

Plus WestJet definitely could use some more Boeing 787’s for its long haul flight operations at YYC. The WestJet fleet info on -Wikipedia, (it saids WestJet still has 2 orders for the Boeing 787-9 plane ✈️). Currently they have 7.
