I will be so happy when the trillium service renews, but clearly the city doesn't even believe they can fill a single bus at 12 min frequency anymore, so why are they bothering...

Though long term I still think there will be capacity problems, short term they are going to have to beg to get ridership back after they killed it with terrible R2 service
Gotta wonder if the City's reasoning was that most if Line 2's ridership is Carelton students who hold mandatory u-passes anyway, so it doesn't matter. They get paid anyway. That kind of thinking negates the possibility of captive ridership beyond university, Government funding tied to ridership and other factors beyond that.

Frequency is now down to 15 minutes and on weekdays there are random half hour gaps, mostly in the afternoon peak period. Talk about contempt to potential riders. My experience with R2 is that service is horribly unreliable, with unexpected cancelled trips.

This seems to be the tip of the iceberg. Lack of drivers and resources being transferred to R1 has resulted in a bus network with random gaps making for undependable and unpredictable service everywhere. No wonder we hear of trips taking 2 or 3 hours. How can this not be driving away customers? Which points to a very difficult ridership recovery.

News on the Trillium Line has been rather quiet lately. Does anyone have any info on how the train testing is going these days? Are we still shaping up to have this line open this fall, or is the fiasco with Line 1 delaying things on Line 2?

https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/construction-o...h-rail-line-hits-another-delay-1.6521651

"Construction on Ottawa's north-south rail line has hit a new delay, with the handover of the Trillium Line to the city of Ottawa now not expected until at least early November."

As others have said, the line has been delayed again. I have been to the north and south end of the line in the last week, and there is no train testing that I have seen. The latest report indicates that there are signaling issues. I imagine that significant train testing cannot occur until this is resolved.

Train testing is ongoing in evenings and possibly overnight. On Monday at 8:20pm a double Lint and a Flirt were spotted at Bayview.

Trillium Line LRT opening delayed until at least later this year

Blair Crawford, Ottawa Citizen
Published Aug 16, 2023 • Last updated 3 hours ago • 2 minute read

The opening of Ottawa’s north-south Trillium Line LRT has been delayed yet again.

Handover of the train between Bayview Station and Limebank is now not expected until “the end of the year,” according to a memo sent to city council Wednesday afternoon from Michael Morgan, director of rail construction.

In his last update to council in March, Morgan said service could have begun as soon as October.

The original contract called for completion in August 2022, meaning the Trillium Line will now be more than one year late.

Track work on the new line is complete but signal testing — a bugaboo of nearly every urban rail project — has been painfully slow. Handover of the Trillium Line hinged on whether the builder could meet a key August testing deadline.

“If they (the builder) can’t achieve that Aug. 1 date, then we’re going to start seeing delays day by day,” Morgan warned councillors at his March briefing.

The delay crushes the hopes of Carleton University students who may have been planning to take the LRT to classes this fall. Airport travellers, too, will have to wait a little longer for a train ride to and from their flights.

The Trillium Line delay is unwelcome news for OC Transpo which this week was able to return full service to the Confederation Line after a four-week shutdown, as problems with broken axle assemblies have plagued the line.

The Trillium Line uses different trains than the troublesome electric Alstom Citadis light rail vehicles on the Confederation Line. The Trillium trains are diesel Swiss-built Stadler trains.

Meanwhile, work continues on Stage 2 construction of the Confederation Line. While still behind schedule, the delays have not increased since Morgan’s last update.

The east extension to Trim Road is expected to open in early 2025, about seven weeks behind schedule. The west extension to Moodie Drive and Algonquin College, however, isn’t expected to open until late 2026, some 17 months late.

Great to see that! I have seen trains a few times at or near Greenboro but that was weeks ago.

Disappointing about the delay but expected at this point. I just wish they would at least open the pedestrian bridge at Carleton. I don't see why the opening of that bridge has to be tied to the train timeline.

Yeah, having incremental openings, pedestrian bridges, bus loops and such gives people a little hope and excitement.

Rail Fans Snapshot updates. I don't think this line is opening this year.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot

I think the northern end (Greenboro to Bayview) might be, and it is hands down the most important segment, but no, it would never have crossed the minds of any of the City braintrust to have the original line open sooner. Carleton students are paying for their U-Passes anyway. Don't need to provide good service in exchange.

Uplands, August 12

Leitrim, August 12

Limebank, August 12

Bowesville, August 12

Well, at least it's coming along. Once this thing is up and running, I will likely get my own Presto pass (after resisting doing so for 4-5 years), and start walking to and from the Confederation Heights/Confederation stop (closest one to my house).

It's called Mooney's Bay now. Moooooney's Bay. Because Mooney's Bay is just so close to the station, you know?

(1.6 km, 21 minute walk)

Our recent habit of naming stations for political or other weird reasons instead of immediate geographical landmarks that even local residents will have a hard time figuring out.

I agree. Mooney's Bay is not even that though. They didn't want to confuse Confederation Station with Confederation Line, so they named it after a park nearly 2 km away instead. And now, the Confederation Line moniker will no longer be used. So why not change the station name back? Or name it Brookfield, or Heron (even though it's 400 meters from Heron the Transitway station).

It isn't an official street name, so yes, some people will be clueless. But that isn't the only one.
