But... you can have your grade for level access, but also a more direct situation for the tunnel. This is a thing that was possible.

Assuming that you mean stairs closer to the tunnel? Definitely possible.

I know it's been like that forever, but why not shorten it while we are at it.

Anyone know where they built a tunnel segment for future connection to Carleton's tunnel network?

For sure, stairs would have been appreciated to cut the walk, but maintenance and such. Easy place to cut costs.

I think Carleton plans on build around the station, but not over over it (other than maybe skywalks) as was previously planned when the line was to be electric.

It is pretty pathetic for the busiest station on the system. That and Dow's Lake. At least the three rural stations are impressive. I'm sure the dears and bears will appreciate it.

Bingo. But everyone who builds things is anti-stairs these days. (See also: Flora Footbridge)

They built the tunnel across from the student residence. Comparing to the video a few posts ago it looks like its under the northern tip of the platforms. You can see it in the following snapshots:

lol, are you telling me there is an IN STATION tunnel buried beneath the 2nd row of bus shelters there ...that's not used at all!!!! but the old out-of-the-way tunnel was rebuilt completely and is the current way through here? Granted, the old tunnel is a major thoroughfare to the gym, and should stay put, but surely the station deserves an in-station access from platform-to-platform? Is this so RTG or whatever can avoid cleaning and maintaining more square footage of station/elevators/etc? Seems very unfair to our future taxpayers..

I remember doing this day-in-day-out and it's not so bad. But sh*t, like this station is the only reason the O-train had riders back in the day.

Is Carleton still planning on a building over the tracks? Horse has left the barn on that one, I guess.

Show me the station! This is a bus stop.

The tunnel under the station is for a future connection to Carleton's tunnel network whenever Carleton builds a building at that parking lot.

It would have been nice for an exterior tunnel exit in the mean time like the one by Atheltics and the one by Stormont/Dundas but alas.

But yes, I wish they made another pedestrian tunnel on the other side of the station for people using the train from the Res buildings. Also people going to St. Pats for classes!

We can't fault anyone too much for that. At least they did some future proofing in this case, unlike everything else they should have future proofed, but didn't.

Sad truth my friend.

So whats the price cap on future proofing in this town? The price of a new HD 2500 off the lot?

There was an interview on CFRA yesterday afternoon with an OC Transpo bus driver union spokesman indicating that test drivers for Line 2 had been reassigned to R1 service. Sounds like this is delaying Line 2 testing and therefore, could this delay Line 2 opening?

That won't make a difference. September handover isn't happening either way.

Whether it goes 40 years without use is really up to Carleton. Coordination with the City on stair and elevator additions would likely happen once Carleton initiates plans to build the remainder of the tunnels.

No trains on the tracks at the south end of the line this afternoon.

Stations at Limebank and Bowesville are no where near ready for public use.

Crane up at Rideau-Carleton Raceway.

Yesterday's tornado touched down just north of Rideau-Carleton Raceway on both High Road and Albion Road, causing house and serious tree damage on a very narrow corridor. A CBC vehicle stopped just as I passed one of the worst affected properties.

I am reflecting on the 3 1/2 year (and growing) closure of the Trillium Line and I wonder why the improvements to the original portion of the line could not have been accomplished with just a summer closure. Even the Ellwood diamond grade separation could have been accomplished with a temporary rail diversion while the bridge was being built. Similar projects (diamond separations) in Toronto were accomplished without any interruption in service.

Since the LRT passes over Via’s line there is no reason for any kind of a diversion. The girders over Via’s tracks could have been lifted over the tracks st night time. Because Ottawa has no employees with railway construction experience, the City seems to think it has to shut the line down all the time.

They could also have gone full double-track during that time. But no.

Agreed. No excuse for not prioritizing the 20k existing users. Bad enough that they're getting no improvements out of it other than the addition of Corso Italia and South Keys, but they lost their primary mode of transit for all these years. Unacceptable.

Even further too that, they abandoned their existing users to a replacement bus service with a fraction of the capacity, that very rarely ever hit the advertised 5 min or less frequency. And now that its summer, its advertised frequency is less than the 12 min frequency of the train.

I will be so happy when the trillium service renews, but clearly the city doesn't even believe they can fill a single bus at 12 min frequency anymore, so why are they bothering...

Though long term I still think there will be capacity problems, short term they are going to have to beg to get ridership back after they killed it with terrible R2 service
