It was going to cost me a few thousand bucks to upgrade the underground service to my detached garage. While I mulled that over I stuck a 240V/20A breaker in my 30A panel and ran the 12A charger that came with the car from it. I've found that it's more than adequate for my needs and I've never bothered doing anything else.

When sizing your home charger, it's not the capacity of its battery that matters, it's how much you drive it on a typical day.

On the odd occasion where I've had back-to-back long trips on consecutive days I simply go to a fast charger and add just enough juice so that the car will fill up by the next morning on the home charger. I've had to do that maybe 2 or 3 times in almost 6 years of ownership.
