Someone from the construction team at Tim Hortons Field is posting updates on their forum

We're plugging away at the last upper level 6 and 7 on the West side. Most of the East slab on deck is complete. 2nd floor West M&E works have already started. Private boxes are on level 5 West.

Precast bleachers on the East side are going well. Weather looks good next week so should get a full week of installation.

Roughly 160-170 people on site these days. Various activities happening on pretty much every floor.

Update on Markham arena

Markham’s mayor was all smiles at a morning news conference .

Frank Scarpitti was joined by GTA Sports and Entertainment CEO Graeme Roustan Saturday morning to announce that some funding from the private sector had been secured for GTA Centre.

“I am excited to have this wonderful opportunity to attract the GTA centre to our city,” said Mayor Scarpitti.

The city of Markham has reportedly signed a memorandum of understanding with developers for $70 million. GTA Sports and Entertainment will chip in over $162 million.

The project for an NHL-sized arena is estimated to cost $325 million, and after a meeting yesterday, Markham city council cautioned that a lot more work needed to be done.

I'm going to have to agree. In terms of how well stadiums have aged (aesthetically only), Commonwealth in Edmonton and Olympic in Montreal are two of my favourites. Commonwealth just has a classic look to it and Olympic still looks futuristic 30-some years later.

The design of the Big O may have aged well, but the physical structure sure hasn't.

Commonwealth looks awesome with the new seats. Closest thing to an NFL stadium in the CFL.

I haven't been in Commonwealth Stadium but from the pictures it appears to be somewhat similar in design to the Ralph Wilson Stadium in the NFL - http://football.ballparks.com/NFL/BuffaloBills/. The Ralph Wilson Stadium is a sunken bowl design and, from what I have read, so is the Commonwealth Stadium. I would like to see Commonwealth Stadium in person some day. The picture posted by elly63 looks great.

It is certainly a great looking stadium. I like the sunken bowl design.

There is no Bird's Eye View for this stadium (just the Google Map view). I drove down from the GTA to see this stadium in October 2011 and I took some pictures which I posted in the Halifax Stadium section - http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=5453876&postcount=3895 . This stadium looks much better in person than in pictures. I wonder if this style would work in the CFL if Halifax decides to build a stadium for the CFL? Except I think the benches should be replaced with seats.

Thanks for that link. It seems to provide a better image than Google but the image is older.

As I said, these satellite photos are old images, keeping them for history, as most of these stadiums don't look like that today and some have been and will be replaced.
