I do think an argument could be made for increased capacity based on the influx of residential buildings in the area, but IMHO focus should still be on the downtown to host major events. However, I don't think that the argument for increased capacity should not be centred around the potential for hosting the Mooseheads temporarily while their facility is overhauled.

I also think it's important to maintain the architectural integrity of the Forum, as it's an important part of the city's history. If you just want a large capacity arena that blows up the old Forum, then why not just create a clean-sheet design on another more-favourable spot?
Historically the forum has been used for overflow when the Metro Centre was unavailable. Reducing the seating capacity reduces the potential to hold large events. We already have an example of occupying prime real estate with limited function in the Sportsplex, (seating 2000). Can't really think of a notable event recently at the Sportsplex other than the odd country show. I would like to see the Forum preserved and redeveloped with a growing population as part of the go forward plan. The Forum as it currently exists is not suitable to host large events due to lack of amenities.
