Still not sure whether rousseau did it on purpose or not, but it seems obvious to me that this expression is super un-PC according to the pure... the idea that women are cowardly and indecisive as a group (unlike men, clearly) is horribly sexist, right? Seems to me it would be in the same general category as pointing out a Voldemort-rigged electrical setup, at first sight: expressions that totally help propagate and reinforce old stereotypes against some groups.
BTW my opinion on this whole issue (what to do with old colorful expressions that have been used for centuries) is not fully black or white at this time.
