I think it is more people forgetting that the SkyTrain was designed as an arterial backbone that can connect major centers in minutes while the feeder routes are all operated by bus or even LRT which can take tens of minutes but has a typically lower cost to reach more remote/suburban areas where SkyTrain service would be too cost prohibitive/intrusive to be viable. They just see LRT as being cheaper and easier to install and future predictions for every other variable can go out the window.
