There is also the not-insignificant factor, too often overlooked, of how a transit service
feels.
Starting or ending your day on a smooth-running train, crossing the Ottawa River across the broad PoW bridge crossing, with views of the river, the cities, the sun rising (or setting), the changing of the seasons, would make a huge impact on how using transit
feels.
Or you could take the route that is alleged to be shorter, in time or distance, or if you're lucky, both, by busing it across Chaudière, in harsh mixed traffic, through a less-than-scenic built environment, on a jerking, swerving, turning bus, often with a jerking swerving driver behind the wheel who is inconscient of how his or her driving habits affect the passengers they are transporting.
I know which route I'd be using, even if it did take one more rail stop coming from the east to access it.
