I recollect that there were horse stalls down there (at Cityplace) originally, for Eaton's delivery services. At least I was told that once and I'm sure it would make sense because they would have had to load up for deliveries somewhere and the basement would have been ideal given that they were storing, producing and packaging so many different items on the upper floors.
