Edmonton is currently building its final sections of its ring road.

Freeway

189 lane kilometers of new roadway
Approximately 9 km of a new six-lane and eight-lane divided freeway between Manning Drive (Highway 15) and Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail).
Approximately 9 km of reconstructed six-lane and eight-lane divided freeway between Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail) and Whitemud Drive (east).
Approximately 6 km of reconstructed six-lane and eight-lane divided freeway on Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail) from east of the North Saskatchewan River to east of Sherwood Drive.
Approximately 3 km of reconstructed six-lane divided freeway on Sherwood Park Freeway between east of Anthony Henday Drive and west of 17 Street NW.
Utilities

Approximately 523 utilities.
Anticipating 292 relocations and protections of the utilities.
Stormwater Management

Will be a significant challenge, requiring detailed stormwater modeling, construction of 24 stormwater ponds with inlet ditching, outfalls and related piping
Structures

Total of 47 bridge structures, comprised of 37 highway bridges, 8 rail bridges and 2 river bridges.
The current plan has 15 bridges with steel girders, 23 bridges with NU girders and 8 bridges using concrete boxes.
Interchanges located at Manning Drive (Highway 15); 153 Avenue; 130 Avenue; Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail) (systems interchange); Sherwood Park Freeway/Wye Road; Baseline Road; 17 Street NW at Sherwood Park Freeway; Broadmoor Boulevard/17 Street NE at Highway 16; and, Sherwood Drive at Highway 16.
Grade separations located at Canadian National Railway Company (“CNR”) Coronado; Victoria Trail; CNR Vegreville; CNR/CPR north of Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail); Canadian Pacific Railway Company (“CPR”) south of Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail); CPR east of Anthony Henday Drive on Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail); and, Petroleum Way.
There will be twin river bridge structures over the North Saskatchewan River.
The project requires 58 overhead sign bridges and 45 cantilever signs.
