REGINA — Regina is expanding and a new brand is being unveiled by Mayor Pat Fiacco this afternoon to let the rest of the world know.
Infinite Horizons was the statement selected to help those outside the city recognize the opportunities available in Saskatchewan's capital city. That statement will be supported by what are known as "design flourishes," sweeping strokes of various colours. A vibrantly-coloured, stylized letter R will also represent the city.
As money becomes available, the new brand will be rolled out in the community replacing the old brand — a black and white outline of Regina's downtown with Regina written in script underneath. The new brand will be displayed on websites and other such materials as soon as possible, but building signs and vehicles will be changed later.
The mayor's "I Love Regina" campaign will continue, but is intended to be engage residents of the city while the new brand will be used to raise awareness of the city among those living elsewhere.
A new website — infinitehorizons.ca — is being launched to spread the word about Regina. Videos and other promotional materials will be highlighted at the Saskatchewan Pavilion at the Vancouver Olympic Games on Feb. 12-14.
The brand was developed over the last 18 months and cost $320,000. The City of Regina hired a Winnipeg agency — McKim Cringan George — to work with a committee of several Regina organizations, including the Regina Regional Opportunities Corporation, Regina Downtown, Regina Warehouse District, and the Regina & District Chamber of Commerce to develop the new brand.
