I do understand political ideologies. I have read the Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital. In Kapital Marx lays many criticisms on capitalism, which are many of the same criticisms Progressive Democrats today use. Marx believed that the "workers revolution" would come through a grassroots overthrow of the Bourgeoisie and establish first a socialist order, then a communist system. While the avatar is a bit of hyperbole, there should be no doubt by anyone with a cursory understanding of political ideologies that his beliefs and many policies are greatly influenced by the work of Marx. Read or reread Kapital and then listen to any number of his campaign speeches and you'll find a familiar tone.
