I think this sounds like a terrible idea. We have to see it first of course, but at first blush, I can't see how it's not going to look like it's aping the Tange building there. I wouldn't want anyone mistaking the new building for an authentic realization of his vision for the site.
It would be better just to let it stand on its own, I think, with a background building next door to frame it.
