The Buck/Tallahassee partnership's new building will mirror the one on the north end of its site.

I think this sounds like a terrible idea. We have to see it first of course, but at first blush, I can't see how it's not going to look like it's aping the Tange building there. I wouldn't want anyone mistaking the new building for an authentic realization of his vision for the site. It would be better just to let it stand on its own, I think, with a background building next door to frame it.

Dan - Mondial is definitely under construction. I took some pictures on Monday, they're several pages back by now. Judging by their progress, I'd say a mid-June start was likely.

I took some construction photos of it in late May after Pat's Pizza was leveled. It was not underconstruction at that time. I would say June would be a pretty safe bet for a construction start.

"600 South Clark" cannot be the address, as that would be the corner of Harrison. It's most likely going to be 626 South Clark, or possibly 642.

The old Pat's Pizza building was demolished May 16, and foundation work began on the new structure shortly thereafter.

Walked all around Streeterville today... while going to the CS Site. No pictures.. as my camera took a vacation without me. A few observations/comments on what I saw

Parkview West is looking stunning! The curtain wall looks great, and I am liking the look of the metal panels on the west facade. Once the tower and park are completed this will be great I think.

Not construction.. but the Time-Life Building. This is one of my favorite skyscrapers in Streeterville. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. The glass is all totally filthy..

600 N Fairbanks.. Overall, the tower looks great, but if I had to nitpick.. I really don't like the way the balcony railings look with the rest of the building. Balconies are typically hard to integrate well... but I don't know.. it just isn't working I don't think, and could have been done better.

Any idea what is going on on the small site directly next to Pizzeria Uno's? There is a small crane and an excavator there.

Was hot out there today.. which helped draw a lot of bikinis out there today for extra visual stimulation!

^^Yeah, that makes me wanna puke.. I love the look of 55 E Monroe while looking up at it from the base.. it is just SO MASSIVE and has great soaring vertical lines.. at least until they ruin it for these shitty overpriced condos with minimal windows...

I agree - I would say around 500-510' would be the most you could expect from ground level...should still have a great presence in the immediate area as it will soar above Avenue East directly across the street.

The original height figures for Cityfront Plaza were not for "real" buildings planned - they were probably the maximum allowed under the PD or something like that....as such, there is no saying if tower III will be as tall as the 750' figure that gets thrown around.......but I hope so...

Don't mind at all. You did a great job. If anyone wants to play tourist, this angle can be enjoyed from the top of the Ferris wheel on Navy Pier.

(The ice cream out there is pretty darn good too. )

I don't think it's clear at all what she means by it will "mirror" the AMA building. Are we talking about just the shape being the mirror image? BVic or anybody else who managed to make it to the Plan Commission meeting on this one: were detailed renderings presented? We've seen at least 2 versions previously and I thought both were pretty good. Frankly I wouldn't want them to try and make this tower some sort of near-identical twin and I'm cautiously optimistic that they are not attempting this...

I know the first couple months were not actual caisson work, as they were filling tunnels and such, but it still seems as though the 353 N Clark caisson work is taking quite a long time, at least compared to other major projects recently - 300 N LaSalle, Aqua, Legacy, and I'd put my money on 155 N Wacker soon joining this list as an example....

Definitely looking forward to this project. Love how the new contemporary structure cantilevers (or at least appears to cantilever) over the building next door. Nice piece of innovative modern urban design. Also, this is a huge needed boost in density for the immediate neighborhood. I hope we continue to get these new dorm projects at a rate of 1 or 2 a year coming online for the decade or so...

There was even a more recent proposal for this site, designed by Murphy/Jahn. It was a similar height, or I'm estimating 50-80 ft. taller (I believe it was hotel/residential as well) and it was stunning. I saw a model of it around 2 years ago in M/J's office. Apparently there was a small competition for the design commission and they got it, but who know's what the current state is (if it hasn't yet died) of the proposal
