Winnipeg has a large downtown area which makes the spaces seem much more disjointed than other cities, I guess because it's a sort of "remnant" if you will of when it was booming and projected to be much bigger than it turned out to be present day. The amount of space there is insane, it would feel like a completely different downtown if even half of those empty lots were filled with 10 storey buildings.

It has tons of space to fill still, so one day in the future I'm sure that view will pick up and receive new buildings. I agree, its a great view over that bridge. Perhaps the best view of downtown in terms of giving a sense of scale. Really makes the downtown seem large when seeing it in person.

Nice to see a few cranes in the skyline there.

Primarily quaking aspen and poplar.

The aspens in the foreground are, in particular, preserved by restrictive covenant.

There would be lots of Elms in there too. Most leaves turn yellow like that here, even Larch trees have needles that turn that shade of yellow. Basically the lack of colour is due to the lack of Maple trees in Calgary, though there are a few.

Nice finds Chad. I'm trying to figure out what community is in the foreground of the second picture. Considering there are aspen trees all throughout the west of the city I can't pinpoint where those houses are. What is the main road furthest to the left, middle of the frame that's lined with pine trees?

Also interesting to see how much thinner the BVS towers look from east to west than from the north or south. Much less fugly from this vantage.

I'd guess Cougar Ridge, just east of COP. Could be Aspen Woods or West Springs too.

In the west side of the city Aspens are the dominant natural trees. Also we don't really get red coloured leaves this far west. No maples.

Is it just me or does Calgary's CBD have a larger footprint than Toronto's? (Obviously the skyline as a whole is smaller.)

What do you define as the CBD of both cities?

An area where you don't go more than a (reasonably sized) block without an office highrise (or tall mid-rise) and minimal residential present.

Toronto probably has more downtown office towers, but there's bands of residential buildings and low rise areas.
