Jeff Boucher over at Retail Talk &Share is reporting a flurry of DMs that Costco is now a fair accompli for Charlottetown.

The news is starting to be announced at store meetings, opening in 2028. Will have a gas bar too according to some sources.

Good news. the Moncton store is busy enough as it is without the Islanders coming over as well. Both stores will do just fine.

If they’re planning to have a gas bar, they might want to apply to IRAC now…it takes a few years to get permission to sell fuel.

Too much public input and there is the Design Review Board, both are poison. In saying that, I can see some changes. Public input on the development across the street on Mt Edward was negatively received by the public, but now the second stage is completed, with another stage coming. The Hidden Valley development and the East Royalty area are booming, and a town sized development has started there. Three buildings in the downtown, one eight storey, which is at the fourth floor, The Banks, which is a seven storey set to start in May, and the eight storey at the end of Prince St. There are others on the waiting list. So, as bad as the NIMBYs are here, their impact is weak to say the least, and after
IRAC's new policies, the wind has been taken out of their sails.

Speaking of the eight storey at Kent and Great George, it slowly is making its way up!
Now to do something at Fitzroy and Great George. An eight storey there with businesses on the bottom and living spaces above, about 125 units, would be a game changer for the downtown.

Appreciate the update. I've been curious about the progress of this project, but being from Fredericton, I don't get easy access to it haha

Population:

The Capital region (Charlottetown, Cornwall, Stratford) population was estimated to be 69,190 as of July 1, 2025, an increase of 1.7 percent over 2024, and accounted for 37.9 percent of the total provincial population.
The population of Charlottetown, totaling 48,758, increased by 1.7 percent, while Stratford (population 13,152) increased 1.6 percent and Cornwall (population 7,920) grew 1.7 per cent.
The Charlottetown Agglomeration population is 96,516.

Something I noticed, if you combine Stratford and Cornwall population, it totals more than Summerside.

The three municipalities should be amalgamated.

What are the odds of the Gray Groups "Crossroads" development ever starting? I was excited at first, now I'm just disappointed.

As presented? Never. The first thing they built was a gas station / fast food restaurant where their plan called for an office building.

The entire thing was a real estate play. They got the land rezoned, which upped the value. Now they’ll sell it off in pieces.

Foundation permit issued for a 5-storey 88-unit apartment behind Royalty Cross Mall. Nice looking building.

And the 503 University Ave development, where they tore down the Maritime Christian College. It will be two years this June since they pushed city council to appove this.
I don't think the Gray Group are developers, just land investors, who sit on the property waiting for the price to increase to sell at a profit. So much for housing, might as well setup a tent city.

Hilton Suites Update April 3 /26

Much work is being done inside waiting for warmer weather for exterior work.

Former Irving Station

I hope the city is happy with the final result! I sure won't be! I consider this a waste of property. It should have been made for living space instead of a space to charge your bike!

This was always my assumption. After a the work to get the crossroads development area rezoned they went completely dark on the project.

I am hoping someone builds a Real condo in Stratford with underground parking. I know there is one on the Stratford Rd with parking but it still looks like an apt building. Another couple years I will be ready to sell my house and that is what I would like to move to. Something like the apts they are building behind What's the scoop but with underground parking and able to purchase.
